“Stunning location, fantastic lodges”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2013

Just returned from a 3 night break at Argyll Forest. We've had a number of excellent lodge breaks (with and without children) and this is probably the best one yet! We only booked a few days before going, but still had a lodge with fantastic views over Loch Long. I think ours was the newest lodge and everything was spotlessly clean. The surrounding area is beautiful - plenty of walking available with relaxing in the hot-tub to look forward. Staff were all very friendly and knowledgable about the local area. We will definitely be back....

This is a very nice spot if you want to walk dogs and have a nice relaxing time with relatives and friends, however it is not cheap and the time is now for an upgrade on all utensils and furniture.
Firstly staff were very accomodating and friendly however a 4.pm check in is outrageous and is caused by them trying to pay young cleaners to do too many lodges in the 6 hours between check out and first check in. By the time you get checked in you have lost the first day.
The initial cost of the lodges are not cheap if you are a small party with no discount available.
£60 for two dogs for three days is the first additional cost. Now I do not mind paying extra however you get no cleaning from the moment you get there to the moment you leave,so what exactly are they charging for on a daily basis?
£25 for a choice of location is the next additional cost and in my opinion is worth it as many lodges face each other in a cul de sac formation.
Now given that I had paid almost £700 for three nights, I find that the lodge is without wi-fi unless you fork out another £30 for the entertainment package. Movies are £10.
No DVD to play your own!
Lounge seats are heavily stained and the arms appear to be without foam.
The lodge needed a deep clean especially in the kitchen area with the grill pan and oven door quite disgusting.
Kitchen utensils were unusable with the chopping board that was years old and badly worn. A commercial kitchen would be prosecuted for this.
OK I am sorry for doing a Victor Meldrew on this place however if you see the rest of my reviews I always manage to see the good points before the bad and I am disappointed that after my return I still felt it necessary to write.
Location great, Tub on the decking great.
Choice between here and Scotland's many 5 star hotels who accept dogs. No choice!

Room Tip: use the online map and pay the additional £25 to choose your lodge

Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us. I am concerned to hear that we did not meet your expectations. With regard to our prices, they are very clearly stated on our website before booking. Specifically with regard to dogs, our charge is arrived at by working out a daily rate for the additional annual costs associated with accommodating them, which includes not just cleaning but wear and tear. Regarding checking in, you will be pleased to know that our cleaners are important and valued members of our team, they simply need the time to clean and service all our cabins and get hot tubs drained, cleaned and back to the right temperature. You have every right to expect a clean, well equipped cabin with good quality furnishings which, it seems, this was not the case on this occasion. We apologise for this and we will be looking into why your cabin was not up to standard.

Just back from a 4 night stay in a Silver Birch cabin with family which included 3 adults and my 3 year old daughter. The Cabin we had (32) looked relatively new, was gorgeous, spacious, comfortable, and in a beautiful setting. It had ALMOST everything you would need. A few things to note however, due to the height of the bed base from the floor, a bed guard is a must for younger children. My daughter fell out of bed the first night so ended up in bed with me the rest of the stay. I also burned my hand on the oven as we did not have an oven mitt provided (there was a heavy tea towel but this wasn't up to the job), and the bathroom had no anti slip bath mat which would be a useful addition as both my mother and daughter slipped in the bath. This would have been given 5 marks were it not for these few little incidents but I would still absolutely recommend visiting Forest Holidays in Argyll. If you are into Outdoor Activities or just fancy a chilled, relaxed, holiday in a gorgeous setting then this is the place for you! The hot tub is a great addition and was enjoyed by all.

Room Tip: Cabin 32 (Silver Birch) is in an ideal location and has some views over Loch Long. If you want upgr...

Thank you for your review following your recent break with Forest Holidays at Argyll. It sounds as if you had a lovely family break, and as you say, it’s the sort of holiday where you can enjoy an active few days or simply relax and enjoy the scenery. Thank you for your feedback on the things we need to consider providing in the cabin, we will certainly see what we can do. I hope you will come back and stay with us again in the future.

We had a wonderful time at this development. It was our first time on holiday with our dog so although we upgraded to a Golden Oak cabin we were unsure we would get the same quality of accommodation. Our expectations were surpassed in the quality and cleanliness throughout. Most of the Golden Oak cabins are situated overlooking Loch Long so have fantastic views. The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough to make your stay enjoyable. You get a free welcome pack of logs for your log burner. There is also wifi and if you upgrade to the entertainment package you have access to a title of films throughout. The entertainment package also gives access to the Wi Nintendo. Although there is a dishwasher it would also be good to have a washer-dryer. Some of the cabins are better located in terms of being closer to their parking space and the only criticism we had was our parking space was not closer to the cabin, particularly if you are taking a lot of items for a self-catering holiday with a dog. The park is also a great base for touring such a beautiful area.

A brilliant place to stay in Scotland. Could not fault the cabins or the very helpful staff especially the manager Laurent. We stayed in a Silver Birch cabin (No 20) which seemed brand new with high quality fixtures and fittings. Best hot tub - very large and CLEAN. The location of the site is a real plus, approx. 3 miles to the train station. We took the train to Fort William - a must, then the mountain gondala to the Nevis Range. Oban is well worth a visit, over looking Mull and other islands, the drive was breathtaking. 4 nights just wasn't long enough. Best Forest Holiday so far.

First up, the staff are superb. Could not fault them at all, everyone friendly, attentive, informative and helpful. This makes such a difference not just to the current stay but also to encourage you back - which we are already planning.

The cabins are in a beautiful forest setting and there are lots of things to do including forest ranger activities. We were there to check out potential walks with a mobility scooter and it seems to be a perfect base, with lots of different options.

The cabin itself was spotlessly clean, light, spacious, modern and comfortable. The only thing we had to bring was towels, but they can be provided if you ask. We were in the Copper Beech cabin, which is designed for wheelchair users with adapted kitchen (lowered hob and sink and raised dishwasher) and wetroom shower with a seat and grabrails. There is plenty of manouvering space in all the rooms. There is a tarmac parking space and ramps to both doors - no gravel. Note that the paths/roads round the site are a mix of tarmac/gravel.There is a deck at the front of the cabin with level access out the kitchen door.

A few minor things I noticed regarding suitability for a wheelchair user were: all the mirrors are too high to see in; the oven is next to a wall - the oven door opens away from the wall rather than against the wall so it's a hit awkward; in the small en suite you can't a wheelchair to the sink as there's not enough space; I found the geds to be a bit high for transfering but I am pretty short; the table on the deck has fixed seats but a staff member did tell us they would remove one of the seats had we wanted them to.

These minor things were well outweighed by all the positives and I commend Forest Holidays for the effort put into the design of the adapted cabin.

We had home-made pizzas delivered to our cabin one night from the Forest Retreat and it was delicious, especialy the chocolate dessert pizza!

We will definitely go back to the cabins and I happily recomend the site.
