“Argyll forest cabins”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

Just got back from a fantastic 4 day break in cabin 39, the cabin , site and staff were excellent, it was a great base to explore as we drove out to oban and inverary and loch lomand as well as walks in the forest, the cabin was spotless and had everything you would need. And even in November the hot tub was out of this world although a little chilly when getting out of it.
we will be going back or using one of there other sites and would definitely recommend giving forest a try.

Thank you for your review following your recent break at Argyll. It sounds as if you had a great time and managed to explore many of the best local sites. I am pleased that there was still time for the hot tub, even though the weather was chilly. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Sited on the banks of Loch Long this site is ideal for outdoor activities or exploring the area.
The cabin was a Silver birch, 3 Bedroom, 1 en-suite, family bathroom with bath, a large dining kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, fridge and plenty of pots, pans and utensils. The lounge had plenty of seating and a large TV set into the kitchen partition which was multimedia, internet, films and information was accessed from here.
The accommodation was immaculate and spotlessly clean, access was from your own parking bay up a ramp and inside, as the cabin was single storey it would be wheelchair friendly too. The heating was more than adequate, all under floor which was lovely, particularly in the bathrooms.
Now for the best bit, outside the cabin is the wooden veranda, this has a wooden table and chairs and a metal BBQ rack, I would imagine summer is a dream just kicking back on here, down 3 steps from the veranda is the hot tub, constantly on and warm with mood lighting too, it was a pleasure just relaxing in here, even in the rain on occasion.
There is a café on site which is reasonable and also the bakery deliveries, fresh in the morning, just order the previous day.
There were several site run activities, forest walks and bike hire on site too for a reasonable fee and even a slipway if you fancied kayaking in the Loch.
The beach here is stony and its around 3 miles to Arrochar along the road, a better route is the forest walk which avoids most of that but it takes a little longer.
The downside? the floor had already started to lift in places despite being new, I can't see this looking immaculate for long, and, when it rained, the field got very wet so stay on the paths.
The only real change I can see is that there should be higher screening around the hot tub area rather than wooden fencing, that would afford more privacy as people can and do walk past.
It is really a beautiful location, lots of hills and mountains to hike, kayaking and cycling on the doorstep, we will be going again.

Room Tip: Some of the lodges have wood burners.

Went with my new born daughter in the Winter of 2010... Couldn't have asked for more, picture perfect location and the frosty air and clear skies added to the experience.

The Golden Oak cabin was fantastic with underfloor heating, 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and was spotless. The kitchen had everything you could ever need....and the hot tub was fantastic over looking Loch Long even at -2c.

Very peaceful and memorable stay...Great fun!

Just returned from a 3 night stay. Our cabin number 27 had an unrestricted view of the hills, loch long and over to the village of Arrochar. The cabin was well laid out and lots of space. It was very cosy and warm. The hot tub was a delight to have and although we were out on the decking we could not hear others. In fact if it wasn't for the cars we would have thought we were the only ones there. The staff were very pleasant checking us in, we did not visit the retreat during our stay as we took food with us.we had one wet day which spoiled our enjoyment of the area however this did not stop us from being in the hot tub. Sitting under the stars in hot water massaging you was wonderful. The village is a little further away than we thought, 3.5 miles each way and although there is a pavement there is no lighting so we had a nominated driver as no local taxis or regular bus service. We visited the village Inn and were welcomed by friendly staff. Definitely recommend this lovely site to others looking for a relaxing weekend break.

Our 5th time with Forest Holidays, 2nd time at Argyll. Everything was as good as last year and we have already booked our return for 2014. The cabin was spotless and welcoming. The staff were attentive as usual. The decor is in the cabin is very restful. It's is so peaceful on this site, very good for the soul. Really looking forward to our next visit.

We are regulars at Forest Holidays sites around the UK and Ardgartan didn't disappoint. Double the number of cabins since our last visit but still has a great outdoor feel.

Free public wifi at The Retreat is painfully slow - needs looked at, team - but in-cabin service is adequate.

Preorder bakery items were fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week and thanks to Debbie, Laurent and team for welcoming us back once again. Strathyre site in December :-)

3rd time of staying and will be back again, beautiful lodges, beautiful setting, friendly, helpful staff, sitting in the hot tub with the mountain and loch views WOW, stayed in number 40 weekend of 25th October, after previously staying in the older lodges it was nice to be in a newer one, just as good though with a couple of subtle changes, the log burner was great as it's starting to get a bit cold, would highly recommend.
