“Super location”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

After a long drive we arrived to find a fantastic location and view out over Loch Long. We checked in and were shown to our room which was at the rear of the hotel. The room itself was lovely, nice an clean and everything that we required. We ate in the restaurant that evening and the food was delicious. The choice was quite extensive and I must say the meals that I saw other people having looked very good. Afetr the meal we had a few drinks in the bar, nice end to the night.
What a location, Mountain drives and walks all around as you would expect in the Scottish highlands.
Although we were told at the hotel there wasn't a cash machine in the village we found the local post offfice 1/4 mile away did have one (although it was out of order at the time we visited), not a problem if you are with HSBC as you can get a withdrawal from the post office itself. The other cash machine was about a mile away at the garage (diesel around this area is quite expensive).
Breakfast was included in our stay and was just the thing to start the day.

Room Tip: All the rooms are of a very good standard, I would say that whatever you get you won't be dissap...

What a wonderful review. Our Team are delighted with you comments as they work very hard at all times. I do hope that the lack of cash machine and expensive diesel doesn't put you off visiting us in the future as we are looking forward to welcoming you back.

The hotel has a lovely cosy feel about it. The bar is great and offers a wide variety of drinks including whiskys from around Scotland. They also serve third of a pint and you can have a tray of three to sample various beers. Great idea. We had evening meal and breakfast. Both were lovely and served by great staff who were very attentive.
Our room was spacious and clean with tea and coffee supplied. Our room was Room 1. The only problem with this room is that your view is of the back of the kitchen and the noise in the early evening was horrendous due to the kitchen fans. Through the night however it was very quiet and peaceful. I would ask for a front facing room if I book again.

Room Tip: Dont have Room 1.....noise from the kitchen fans is very loud and absolutely no view

This was our third overnight stop at the Village Inn on a journey north. The room had been booked for some months and our confirmatory e mail said we had a room overlooking the loch. However on arrival we were informed it was not available. This was disappointing as the views from the front of the hotel are stunning. Our room was very good though, well kitted out and recently refurbished. Initially very noisy though from the air ventilation unit for the kitchen. This was switched off about 10pm.

We had dinner which was good. A varied menu with daily specials. Breakfast was good too.

We would use the Inn again and are happy to recommend it.

Room Tip: Always ask for a Loch facing room.

Thank you for a delightful review. I am sorry that you did not get a loch facing view this was a mistake on our part. We are very happy that you enjoyed your visit and look forward to you returning in the future.

We went as a family (two adults and two children) and were allocated adjoining rooms (in "the annexe"), which worked perfectly. Though small, the rooms were comfortable and clean with amazing views over the nearby loch. The restaurant felt a little "barren" and hard but the meals were good quality at a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and professional and the whole atmosphere was one of "Scottishness" (which is what we went for!). Just needed some bagpipes and a haggis!!

This was our second visit. The rooms have all been refurbished and are of a high standard. The rooms are clean and large. The first challenge was that the window was locked open and there were no handles on the window. The reception man showed us how to unlock the catch, but was then shocked to see the window handles had been broken off. So my customer service alarm was ringing. Why didn't the room cleaner spot it and report it? If she did why didn't it get fixed? Meal on 1st night was prompt - chicken kebabs and barbequed beef - both tasty. The restaaurant is usually fully booked with many non-residents. Breakfast was good.
Next night they made us wait for half an hour for our table. They were very apologetic but there were available tables for other reservations that they could have offered us. After our order was taken and eventually delivered it was 1 hour later than our table booking time. Not good. The food is good but a bit pricey. The staff are ostensibly attentive and very pleasant. I suspect they are being overly trained to follow rules and aren't using their initiative. We had a better meal the next night in Portree for half the price.

Room Tip: Room 2 has a view of the loch and The Cobbler (Ben Arthur)

Just arrived home from our three night stay at the Village inn. Fantastic view from our room & our meals in the restaurant every evening were lovely, as were the breakfasts, great choice with both :o). We found the staff to be very friendly, & a special mention needs to be made of James, who is so attentive & efficient. We would definitely recommend the Village inn & will be staying here again on our next trip.

Second time being here within the year! This time my bfs patents came with us. Checked in late and wish we had of came earlier. We stayed in the lodges out the back, great, except really wanted one if the big Victorian tubs instead of a waterfall shower which was excellent any way! In the bar we had food, even after last orders which was exceptional. Traditional music was being played and sung. Great night. Can't wait to go back...
