I am normally a fan of Cameron House Hotel (I got married here 17 years ago) but we have just had a very disappointing lunch in the boathouse restaurant. It was reasonably busy, but the speed of service was very slow and the staff looked like they were chasing their tails all afternoon. Drinks took twenty minutes to arrive, and they took half an hour to take our order. Most of this you COULD put down to a one off but the food was, frankly bland and overpriced.

Burgers were only available "fully cooked" which seemed odd for a high class hotel, even though this venue is a high priced easy access eatery. When it arrived I realise why they only cook them "fully". They were cheap, tasteless, frozen catering burgers.

For £15 plus an obligatory 10%service charge this sort of quality is shocking. Coupled with slow, poor service you should set clear. Great location, awfu
Food .

Serve a decent burger. It is the easiest dish to get right. And salad should consist of more than a single leaf of lettuce and a single slice of tomato.

Very poor show for somewhere that can and should deliver better. Kids meals were ok. Wish I had tried the seafood.

Lovely atmosphere, lovely food. Staff were very slow at taking plates. Asked for vinager, they didn't come back with any. Asked for coffee with sweet, didn't come with sweet. We had to ask again for it. Paella description in menu said with chorizo, no chorizo in it. Apart from that, was lovely. Beautiful surroundings looking over loch lommond.

As with other diners the first problem was finding the restaurant which is poorly signposted. We parked in the first car park we came to which was signposted for the restaurant. We wandered past the hotel then went back to the car and took a guess it was located further over. The proper car park was full of pot holes.

We were there for lunch. It is a lovely building, great ambience and great views over the loch. Our order was taken quickly and indeed service was too quick with the staff constantly asking if everything was ok despite the fact we had hardly started our meal. The attentive service changed as they got busy and later we waited ages to request the bill when we might have ordered more coffee or drinks but basically got fed up waiting.

The meal was good. Seafood chowder, followed by chicken burger and a cheese burger (one of the best burgers I have had in ages). Accompanied by a nice glass of wine. The menu was fairly short but covered most of the main popular dishes. In terms of value for money possibly slightly overpriced for the fare on offer.

There was a nice relaxing atmosphere with plenty of families with young kids.

We would certainly return if we are in the area.

This is on the Cameron House hotel estate, overlooking the marina.
Beautifully decorated, all very west coast USA. Food is good , lots of Burgers, pizzas and now a seafood bar.Quite expensive but you are in a 5* hotel grounds.

Being set within the very selective DeVere Cameron House complex, we were expecting much more from the Boat House Restaurant. However, apart from the scenic location and the friendliness of some staff, there is nothing about it to justify the pricy menu and the uninspired presentation of the food. They also have a very weird reservation system, by email only. The 0871 number for Cameron House is never answered. We turned up to the restaurant unsure whether the reservation had been confirmed by email as we had been out all day and did not have access to a computer. We did get a table with a loch view, as requested, but we had to wait for it far too long (maybe they had forgotten about us). The food was just average, quite generous portions, but nothing special about is, the sort of pub grub. They serve tomato ketchup and vinegar straight from the bottles and I am sure that my spare ribs had been covered generously with Heinz BBQ Sauce. The total cost was just over £100 for 2 people, just starter and main course, no pudding, no coffee and no wine, just 2 halves of lager and a coupe of soft drinks. In any other restaurant that would have been no more than £40. Overall impression - rather ordinary but very overpriced.
