“4 star it is NOT”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2013

The standard must be set very low in Scotland for this to get a 4 star rating. This is a 2 star at best. Walk across the street and stay at the Balloch Hotel.

Internet was promised but didnt work; breakfast included but didnt start until mid morning. Just a room above the pub, although clean, with a window to a parking lot, unsightly view of parked cars and junk. We complained about a window that fell apart and they did take notice and sent someone to fix it while we were in bed. We complained to the owner who decided he needed to keep much of the money we had given him in advance for what was to be an extended stay. We were only too happy to leave. They never even gave us a proper receipt!

I am still mad and shocked at the way the owner treated us; I would never ever step foot in this place again.

I'd been with my daughter to Balloch, and chanced on the Waterhouse for lunch. We enjoyed it so much that we made a family party of 4 about 3 weeks later for this visit. If it doesn't look anything special outside, going through the doors brings you into a charming, prettily decorated place; the toilets clean and pleasant. There was a nice buzz to it both with an early and late lunch. The Staff is very friendly and attentive; the food excellent; there are a few draught beers available. A novelty for me was tempura batter, which i tried out on a chicken main dish first time, and on a mushroom starter on the return visit. We had had a problem with our car prior to the second visit, which had dampened our enthusiasm a bit, but the Waterhouse quickly dispelled any gloom. There are at least 4 eateries within 100 yards or so, which may encourage healthy rivalry

Room Tip: This review is restaurant only.

Located in Balloch, Scotland. I have not stayed in the property rooms and only enjoyed the restaurant.

The menu will not hold any surprises and the food will be on par with what you can expect in a Wetherspoons. Unlike the former the food is prepared fresh rather than bulk, shipped kitchens.

Staff were business like but don't expect Scottish hospitality when busy.

Great little place to go for a meal. Go and have a look as it is very modern and very clean inside. Good quality and quantity food at reasonable prices. The staff are very efficient and friendly.

Have passed this place on many occasions on my way to other restaurants in Balloch & Loch Lomand Shores but never went in as always thought it was a pub and was not what we were looking for. Glad to say that we visited this week after a recommendation and were very impressed will most certainly be back.

Thankfully we just stayed for one night.
This is a pub with rooms above in a row of shops on the main road through the centre of Balloch. There is no car park, cars have to be parked in the public car park across the road and we were concerned for its safety.

The room was fine but we were kept awake by noisy people in the next room (through what felt like paper thin walls - I could hear the conversation clearly) and traffic on the road.

It does not serve meals after 4pm. It felt deserted.
It is not expensive but you could find nicer, quieter places with evening food.

Really impressed at this Inn, very clean, large rooms which could easily rival a few four star hotels we have stopped in.Warm friendly welcome, nothing to much trouble.Had a meal in the restaraunt which was also very nice.Although we were attending a wedding we still managed to get a couple of walks in along the loch which was only a few minutes walk away.Breakfast was tasty but as usual when stopiing at an Inn the choice was a bit limited but this would not put us off.Only one TINY critisism ,plastic spoons in the room for our tea and coffee !
Would definately return to Balloch and definately stay at the Waterhouse Inn.

We booked 2 rooms for our family essentially to visit a family wedding nearbt on the Loch. The rooms are certainly comfortable and very clean, the hotel is very well situated and parking opposite is absolutely no problem. Excellent breakfast and very friendly staff. Lack of telephone is not a problem these days with mobiles. We did stay in room 4 and experienced the plumbing noises - really should do something about that. Also the shower could be more powerful. Our biggest disappointment was that one of the reasons we chose the hotel was for the food yet on Saturday night we were told (too late) that last orders for dinner were 7.45! Having travelled the world I am used to restaurants only beginning to get busy at around 8.30 so this was a huge disappointment.
On balance though, we found the hotel excellent value for money and would definitely stay again (but not room 4) and try to eat earlier or somewhere else.

Room Tip: Not room 4 unless you are a sound sleeper!
