“Fantastic Trip”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

Just returned from a three night stay at the Gowanlea Guest House in Balloch.

Everything was perfect and it felt like a home from home. Wonderful full Scottish breakfast that set us up for the day

Would definitely recommend to other visitors to the Balloch area, the hosts were wonderful and extremely friendly...hopefully we will return one day.

Thank you for making our break memorable.

Room Tip: Personally I thought room 2 was the best out of the three that my group occupied but they were all o...

We stayed here for 2 nights this weekend just gone and had a very pleasant experience. We arrived Friday night tired after the journey from the South East. We were attending a wedding on the Saturday. The property was clean, tidy & comfortable. The breakfast was very substantial and good choice to cater for all tastes. My son in law asked to used the iron and Andrea actually ironed his shirt and my daughter's wrap ! John was also very friendly, we all had a good chat on the Sunday morning. I would definitely recommend Gowanlea

Hosts Andrea and husband john have got this B&B thing down to a science. Their place, and the rooms are modest, but they've done everything humanly possible to make the experience first class. Attention to detail is outstanding. Andrea is the front person, and our only encounter with John was as the kitchen guy who claimed to be the cook "only if we liked it." He needn't have worried, the smoked haddock with poached eggs was done to perfection.

Hard to imagine doing better than this in Balloch.

We loved our stay here. The hosts were really nice, the room was clean and comfortable, the beds were good, and the neighborhood was quiet and pleasant. It was a short walk, less than 5 minutes, to the train station, and a lovely short walk to the Loch. There was a grocery store and restaurants nearby. The Scottish Breakfast was excellent and beautifully served. We got a ride here from Glasgow Airport with Loch Lomond travel; it was about 20 minutes' drive. We traveled by train to Glasgow to see the sights, but thought it much nicer to spend the night in Balloch than in the city.

We had previously stayed at the Gowanlea twice before and now as regulars, we will always return here when we visit Loch Lomond. A wonderful Guest House, run by Andrea and John who are amazing hosts and make you feel you at ease and relaxed, just like returning home. The Guest House has a very spacious sitting room, with tea and coffee provided and tv for chilling out in, ideal if you have friends or family staying there too or just popping in for a chat. The 5 rooms (2 Family, 2 doubles and 1 twin) are all beautifully decorated, modern and stylish with flat screen tv's and extra comfortable beds. Our double room had a luxurious power shower and clean, bright bathroom. Our room was extremely quiet even at night and in the morning upon drawing back the curtains you are greeted by the most amazing view of the rolling hills beyond.
The most amazing aspect of the Gowanlea (other than the hosts, rooms, view, service) is the breakfast! A wide selection of two course options is provided, covering all angles from the super healthy (muesli, yoghurt and fruit salad), occasional treat (porridge and omelette to your choice) to the extravagant (smoked salmon & scrambled eggs) all washed down with fresh orange juice and filter coffee, not to mention toast on the side. Did I mention the full Scottish breakfast too? Overall the Gowanlea is a fantastic guest house, only 3 minutes from the centre of Balloch. Look no further - you've found your second home.

We stayed one night here with four of my girl friends in dbl bedrooms. Very nicely done interior, newly refurbished, however walls are on a bit of a thin side. Breakfast was absolutely beautiful, very high quality for a b&b. Would stay again for a short while.
