“Perfect Location for Loch Lomond”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

Friendly and very welcoming cuppa offered as we arrived. Nice to walk around easy to reach Balloch castle and Loch Lomond and surrounding areas for boat trips with fantastic views our weather wasn't good but we still had a lovely time, also there is a shopping centre with a vast amount of shops and a sea life center. Kids entertainer was very funny for adults and children alike.

Room Tip: Parking was a problem

IT was Tripadvisor write-ups that drew us to Gowanlea Guesthouse and we were not disappointed by what we found.

Everything that Andrea and John Hughes and family did was aimed at making you feel more like a member of that family coming to stay rather than someone renting a room.

Words like "your comfort", "pleased to help", "just ask" and "don't be shy" are on show throughout the guest house and they mean it.

Comfortable, roomy and immaculately clean - our room was a pleasure to stay in and great value at £65 a night for the two of us. Ideally placed in Balloch for Loch Lomond, the guest house understates itself when it describes your stay as "bed and breakfast".

This was a breakfast to set you up for the day.

Melons, sweet or plain porridge, cereals or yoghurts to start. The Gowanlea full Scottish breakfast of sausage, bacon, potato scone, mushrooms, grilled tomato, beans and the egg of your choice was the mainstay.

But there was also a choice of crispy grilled bacon with scrambled egg, Loch Fyne kippers with lemon butter sauce or poached smoked haddock with soft poached eggs. For an extra £1.50 you could even indulge yourself with creamed scrambled egg accompanied by Loch Fyne smoked salmon.

Not content with that there was a Continental option, a kiddie menu, a sandwich breakfast or lighter options including omelettes or pancakes, crispy bacon and syrup with French toast.

In fact as we were off early the second morning, Andrea whipped together a "to-go breakfast" to see us home.

Now that's what I call bed and BREAKFAST.

We had a lovely stay at Gowanlea. Great room, lovely furnishings and very clean. Andrea was very welcoming, offering us breakfast at 7.30am as we needed to get up and out early. Facilities to leave bikes safely. Lovely guest lounge and complementary teas and coffees. Excellent guest house. Would most definitely stay there again and would recommend it!

We stayed here for one night en route to the Outer Hebrides for Easter and it was excellent. Very clean and comfortable, with lovely bathrooms. The owner who greeted us was lovely and most helpful. We had two dogs with us and it was great that they were made welcome. After a long drive, the Guest House is in an ideal location, being just a minute or two from a beautiful park with paths down to the shores of Loch Lomond. The breakfast was excellent. Great value. Would stay here again.

Booked two rooms for two couples attending a wedding at a nearby church and then onto the Cruin in Loch Lomond. Greeted by Andrea on arrival and shown to clean spacious rooms, Andrea booked a taxi for us which arrived promptly. Breakfast was offered to us at 9.15 as we had been out very late which was nice of her. Lovely breakfast with great choices - best porridge we have ever tasted. Definitely recommend.

This is a centrally located B&B in Balloch, a little town on the southern side of Loch Lomond. The owners are very friendly, and the cooked breakfast is very pleasant (although a specifcally vegetarian full breakfast would be nice). We had two rooms at the back of the house, and could see the mountains. But the walls were very thin and we could hear the neighbours TV. Last time we stayed in the front two rooms and they were much quieter.

We highly recommend this lovely little B and B and wish we had been able to stay for more than one night. We were made to feel very welcome, a nice pot of complimentary coffee was arranged for us in the guest lounge on arrival (which was a lovely feature, as it allowed us sit in comfort with our friends whilst we mapped out our day). The bedroom it's self was a good size and immaculately clean, as was the bathroom. Breakfast in the morning was nice, more than ample and freshly cooked. Thank you for a lovely stay.
