“No Mhor Please”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

We stayed at the Hotel for two nights. It may have just been one of those times when the planets line up to provide you the worst of times. It is true the view from the hotel is good, but being Scottish we know there are far more dramatic views around with hotels in better places. The wine list is good, slightly overpriced, but most establishments can provide a good wine list. The food is fine although the dishes can be hit and miss, excellent lobster followed by mediocre soup. You would expect such an establishment to get a soft boiled egg right.......nope !

Although secluded the hotel is obviously on local minibus lists when rather than a quiet contemplation of the view you are essentially joined by a range of people visiting for an afternoon coffee or pint or bottle of wine complete with frisbies and noise.

I suggest the food waste should be emptied more often. On arrival we parked on the wrong side of the hotel only to be greeted by a fishy pong from the bins. Not welcoming. Still there when we left.

It was pretty difficult to determine who was in charge. The staff work on two levels. They are attentive to the guests, but as soon as they get back to the confines of the bar and kitchen the volume gets up and the conversation erupts noisily. Not relaxing.

The staff party in the close staff quarters on the second night was probably the low point. Went on past 2.30 am. Probably typifies the view that the guests are not really that important. I eventually got up at 2.30 to ask to be allowed to get some sleep, to be met in the courtyard by someone who should have known better, essentially pissed, saying that they had just been across to ask them to quieten down. Oh yeah ! Definitely not cool.

Broken loo seats, leaking shower doors, no wifi, no one in charge, lack of resident space, we could go on.......

When you spend close on £1000 pounds for two nights for a not very good product it makes you stand back and think what an idiot and in the background you know that the owners may be having a wee snicker at you also.

Much much better places to go in Scotland, so,we will.

Room Tip: Go to Gleneagles instead.......

Can't wait to visit again! The weather was beautiful, and the staff was very considerate. We had a pleasant evening with drinks and hors d'œuvre on the patio, followed by a lovely dinner. Room was very comfortable and quiet.

We had a wonderful one night stay at Monachyle Mhor on Monday 29th of July. The superior room we had booked was spacious and well equipped and the hotel itself is set in a beautiful and secluded location. The only gripe we would have had was the lack of wifi, although staff were working to remedy this as we checked out. Wifi in the rooms would be good however.

All the staff we dealt with were excellent, particularly Eli on the bar and Tom who we talked to for ten minutes after dinner. The meal we had was also of the highest quality and I'd consider driving up there in future just for a meal.

While the price means its probably one for special occasions only it was worth every penny and we'll be back in the future.

We returned to enjoy better weather following a previous stay in February when we were snowed in- there are worse places to be stranded!!
Our visit was to celebrate my partners 40th birthday.
The weather was perfect, the beer was cold and it was lovely just to sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
We had a courtyard room which was perfect.
We enjoyed dinner which was expertly cooked and presented.
Can't wait to visit again.

My wife and I took a one night mid-week stay to Monachyle Mhor on the recommendation of a friend. An amazing setting with views around Loch Doine and Loch Voil the large pink old farm house is set along a 4 mile track (various other reviewers have commented that the road is full of potholes but they seem to have been sorted now).
On arriving we were given the choice of either the room we'd booked in the main building or a more spacious upgrade across the courtyard. We opted for the upgrade - never look a gift horse in the mouth. The room was nice, although I don't think it was really anything to write home about. The bathroom and toiletries supplied were of a high quality and the wee home made shortbread were a nice touch but there wasn't really a wow factor.
After unpacking we enjoyed a complimentary tea in the main building, again accompanied by more of the tasty shortbread.
Dinner in the evening was something we were both very excited about. It's a five course menu for £50 each. The young waiter and waitress were attentive and although there were a number of guests they seemed to handle things very well and the pace of the meal was excellent. The food itself was of a very good quality. It's not quite fine dining (especially with the number of flies that seemed to be in the restaurant) but is of a high standard. The first three courses were all quite small and probably put together would be the equivalent of a decent starter so although there are five courses you'll need them to satisfy a good hunger. The local venison both my wife and I had for main was a stand out and my final cheese course was a very healthy serving of some quality cheeses.
Breakfast the next day was served minus the flies and had a large variety of options.
For the price (even though we enjoyed the room upgrade) it's an expensive night for a room with dinner and breakfast. Especially considering we were away mid-week we've experienced other fine dining restaurants and nights away where the price has been £30-£50 lower than what we paid here.
A lovely spot to visit and some stunning scenery but a bit of work to do to justify the price if a future visit is to be had.

Evening meal was beautiful and location gorgeous.
Value for money below average with a number of minor service issues.
What we are most disappointed with is that we emailed some feedback to the hotel after our stay and have been appalled that we received not even an acknowledgement of our email.
Given the way in which this hotel is promoted and the fact that it did not meet our expectations along with the lack of response to our email, we would not rate this a five star experience and would not return nor recommend it to our friends.

We had an amazing room with everything we could want including a sauna and a log fire! The food was good but the dining room cramped. The staff were helpful but particularly in the dining room were not as informative as they could be about the menu they seemed rushed.
