“Perfect Getaway for dog owners”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

We spent an amazing couple of nights here. last year (just getting round to the review) . Wow what an experience.

We stayed in one of the feature rooms with the biggest bath I've ever seen. The gas stove was a real positive and selling feature (though for us we couldnt understand how to use it properly and had to ask a member of staff who duly came round and turned it on for us!) The room was fantastically decorated, superbly comfy and the fact you could bring dogs was just heaven!
When we arrived there was loads of snow and couldn't get up the drive. this wasnt an issue and the staff were towing other guests etc.

Food was fabulous. tender, local and well cooked. I remember the taste of the vension to this day. The tenderest I've ever tasted. Wine list was magnificent. I especially loved the wee bar with the open fire. It was rustic and really was like an old island bar. I would have loved to have seen a wee fiddler or live musician in the corner.

I couldn't recommend Mhor enough. We will certainly be back.

Just spent 2 days at the hotel with our 2 dogs and it was a great venue in a lovely location. the food in the restaurant is very good and the staff are excellent, both very professional and friendly. nothing is too much trouble. our room was lovely and was a real haven from some very inclement weather. can't fault the place and the owners Tom and Lisa have really managed to create a wonderful place to escape, but in style.

I have only written one Trip advisor review before but I so am genuinely touched by the experience of this hotel, the food and the whole package that I have to pass this on. It has a gorgeous fairly remote loch side location and hills behind it. Although it's been here for ages it must be the energy and genuine love of food, wine and being hospitable of the people running it that keeps it so vibrant.
The bathrooms are amazing and some of them huge. I loved the twin baths in ours - perfect for a soak with a glass of champagne after a days walking. We saw some of the other rooms - think We'll go for the massive steam shower room next.
We were toasty warm all the time - in the the winter the wood burners must be fed logs all day. There is an easy cosy traditional/contemporary feel about the place and the service is casually and knowledgeably attentive. No airs and graces, but nothing lacking.
I can't impress on you how good our evening meal was - not a hint of style over content and I can taste everything I ate still. The journey to this hotel would be worth it for the food alone - definitely recommend you have a drink in the cosy home from home lounge first. Some other guests told us we should have had tea and scones here in the afternoon, next time!
I will use any excuse I can think of to go back to Monachle Mhor or treat someone else to the experience. A breath of fresh air.

My partner and I stayed for 3 nights in Nov 2013, looking for an escape after professional exams. We took advantage of buy two nights dinner, bed and breakfast and get the third night free offer.

The hotel is situated a short drive from Callendar. We had no problem finding the place as there is excellent signage along the road passing past Loch Voil and our sat nav quickly locked on to the exact location.

After a frosty November drive we were treated to a warm welcome and given a tour of the premises.

Our room was fantastic. Excellent modern/traditional mix decor, very clean, open plan, superb bathroom with huge bath and shower/steam room. Lots of little quirks like daily medjool dates!

Our day plan was to explore the local hills and do some serious relaxing after that. The surroundings offer breathtaking walks into forest/hills with views back onto Loch Voil. Staff at reception were keen to offer useful route suggestions. We suggest taking maps with you. We found OS Landranger 51 and 57 useful for local navigation. Ask for freshly baked scones with fresh cream/jam upon your return from a long walk. You won't regret it!

Evening meals during our stay were absolutely superb. The menu featured locally sourced produce cooked to perfection. We recommend the scallops or beef carpaccio starters as highlights. The menu changes daily. Each dish was introduced well by the knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff. We couldn't fault the service. Previous reviews have commented on the portion sizes but we would disagree that is is a concern.

Breakfast was good, featuring two courses with plenty of choice. Again service was great.

There is a great lounge for relaxing in front of the log burner, and the bar area offers a superb area to relax in front of a log fire.

We manged to leave a ring behind but this was swiftly dealt with by Fiorella who kindly dispatched this back to us immediately! Thankyou!

We enjoyed our stay and plan to return.

I stayed here with my partner in October for one night in one of the feature rooms. I've stayed before and so I was not surprised by the quality of the food - which was great, but was disappointed by the room. This place is not a boutique hotel its an upmarket B&B with a fine restaurant. B&B for two in a room in a country farm house just isn't worth £265 to me I'm afraid. Even the reduced off peak rate of £235 isn't worth it and that was only grudgingly given because we'd bought a voucher in advance. The room we had was reasonable but not huge and nice but particularly luxurious. At this price you can stay in a reasonable room in a hotel in Tokyo, but that's Tokyo, not Balquhidder! I can't complain about the food in any way though and would come to eat again but will definitely never stay here at these prices.

We were looking forward to another chance to dine at Monachyle Mhor not having been for while. We were not disappointed! Setting and ambience as wonderful as we remembered, food not over complicated which allows one to appreciate what is best about the local ingredients. This included the best main course our veggie diner had tasted in a long while. Querky and friendly service is as ever part if the charm and we are looking forward already to our next visit.

We stayed 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast - during 3 days of poor weather. But we were warm, dry, exceedingly comfortable and well looked after by all the attentive staff. We had everything we needed (and even a choice of a free upgrade - all rooms differ).
The menu gave a good choice of freshly prepared food - at all times. Food was excellent - and the wine list was extensive - if expensive.
The open fires and wood-burning stoves ensured that all the public areas were very cosy - and the suite had easily controlled radiators. We ceased to care about the weather!
