“Couldn't wish for Mhor!!”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

Dropped in to Mhor 84 for a family bite of lunch today. On arrival we were greeted by the resident black Lab puppy Coco.....what a well tempered, entertaining pooch........ The kids loved her!!
What an interesting place to eat, solid individual wooden tables with benches, window seats & unmatching chairs complemented by some squashy cushions. Very relaxing all round.
We had lovely food from an inexpensive varied menu, served by a lovely crew. The service was very good!!
A very relaxed atmosphere all round, located on the scenic A84.
The owners are fun too!!! And very welcoming.....thanks everyone!

I really like this place and have visited lots of times. However, my last meal was really poor. I ordered fish and chips and was really disappointed by the presentation and quality. On previous visits I was served homemade chips which were really good and the fish was perfect. Now they serve frozen chips and the fish was overcooked. Chef on holiday? An easy fix for the management.

Booked into Mhor 84 for one night & think it's great wee find!
Our room was very clean & furnished very cool. Bathroom could do with an upgrade but it done the job.

Dinner was great, the oysterswere some of the best we have had. All of the food was tasty, fresh & very fairly priced.

Breakfast was also super yum & very reasonable.

Will definitely be back & recommend. Great spot for lovely food & a chilled overnight break!

Just back from 2 nights of relacied, qyaluty service, food, and surroundings. Staff warm and welcoming, great music, including live on Thursday might, lego heaven for 7 year-old. The perfect place for the calm and quiet we were looking for to start the school holidays. Would thoroughly recommend to others as a new and much needed approach to hospitality in Scotland.

We stumbled onto this when we couldn't get in somewhere else. (Thank you, Victoria from Lochend Cabins for your help & suggestion) It is a gem! Hidden in a valley on the main road, before the turnoff to Balquidder, is what looks like an ordinary white walled motel cum cafe/restaurant until you enter it's doors! Quirky, full of fun & with a great sense of humour. The decor is eclectic, traditional & certainly original! Mhairi (I hope I got that right!) & her staff are friendly & very accommodating. We had a chuckle when we were handed our room keys attached to a small toy Landrover. That set the mood of the place perfectly. The food is modern, hearty & varied. Their homemade afternoon tea offerings were mouthwatering. Coffee, well it was like home - great espresso from a barista who knew her craft. Thank you, first decent espresso we have had in the UK! Great place to base yourself to explore the Trussochs or waste away some time chilling...& hey, if it is good enough for a certain red haired prince, well....!

Room Tip: Ask for Room #7 facing the road. Light & airy, clean & simple.

We had a two night break bought as a birthday present for my husband. arriving after a spectacularly beautiful drive from Dundee after visiting friends. The hotel is decorated in an eclectic shabby chic style, our room (3) was large with white walls, furniture and very large exceptionally comfortable bed. The ensuite is bit of a disappointment with what appears to be the original 70's turquoise shower with a sliding door which needs to be wrestled into place, water pressure into the basin is poor but the shower is quite powerful.( I hope up grading of the shower is on the hotels development plan.) Breakfast is available at a time to suite which is a great idea and the food is delicious fresh and locally sourced. We ate here each evening and everything we ate was superb and also the cheese scones an absolute must after a five mile walk. The staff were delightful, friendly, efficient, knowledgable and eager to please. We have returned refreshed and relaxed, just what one wants after a weekend break, and would love to return to explore more of the area and sample more of MHOR 84 hospitality and great food.

We stayed for three nights at Mhor84, having spent our honeymoon at its very chic sister establishment, Monachyle Mhor, along the loch, exactly 20 years ago. This time we had two teenage boys and so the hotel was beyond our means. We loved the eccentric design - odd objects, posters and mismatched chairs and teacups, scattered books, funky rugs, a bead curtain. I think a recent review which was truly horrible about this aspect of the motel misunderstood the place utterly - the whole idea is that it's quirky, informal and inexpensively decorated and furnished. So that the focus can be on the excellent food - fresh, beautifully cooked with great ingredients. Certainly not cheap, and when we spent as much on breakfast and dinners as on our two rooms, it was a bit of a shock. But that's what I mean by Mhor84 being a new idea: guests can enjoy fine cooking without the unmanageable prices of a country house hotel. Our rooms were exactly as billed - simple, with hooks for clothes and Ikea furniture, but we liked that - I can't see a need for anything smarter, really, when the beds are comfy and the linen white and crisp. I would suggest that next time cash is spent, bathrooms are the focus. Ours were both, I reckon, still the ones installed in about 1990 when the previous motel was being run there, with avocado ceramics, a shower door that took a real knack and some muscle to shut, quite unpleasant vinyl on the walls. I'm cheerful about basic, but they verged on the depressing. However, at £30 per person per night, I'm not going to rant about it! The motel is a marvellous centre for walking and the views are beautiful - snow-topped peaks in May. Just go there to eat that great food, anyway, and to meet the charming and constantly-helpful staff. They hand over little thermoses of milk for cups of tea in the rooms, and when I asked for one of their cream teas for dessert, they took it board without a murmur. The A84 can wake you up, so take ear plugs, though actually the sheep are noisier.

Room Tip: Ask for room 1 for quiet and a larger bathroom.
