We stayed at Portnellan in may half term, we were blessed with the best weather in Britain.. We had a warm welcome from Cameron and his team, who were always on hand to help. The facilities were great for us as a family, we made great use of the free bikes and boats. The location was great for sight seeing and relaxing. We had great fun doing the treasure hunt and even the dog enjoyed the local piper who visited the site..

We stayed at Portnellan for a week, and we were very happy with almost everything. The owner, Cameron was charming and helpful. The lodges are well equipped and comfortable, and the view from our lodge was simply spectacular. Very little let's these lodges down, however if you want luxury, you might be let down. Portnellan does what it says on the tin, and these are simple lodges in a wonderful setting, nothing fussy or grand. We had fantastic weather all week, however if it was raining I would be quite worried as its quite remote and not tons to do for kids unless you're willing to drive quite a long way. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Portnellan.

Room Tip: I would recommend that you ask for a lodge with a view.

We had a lovely stay at Portnellan. The lodge was perfect with a beautiful outlook and everything we could wish for. The location was a good central point for exploring further afield with us visiting Glencoe, Killin and Callander over the weekend. We had such a relaxing stay and would love to come back. Many thanks - Barbara, Lesley and Cara (Retriever).

My husband and I visited Portnellan for a tiny honeymoon right after we got married a few months ago. It was a wonderful and friendly welcome. The cottages were spaced far enough apart that we felt like we had plenty of privacy. The addition of a barbeque made for a wonderful trip, especially better with the stunning weather.
The cottage we originally booked was unavailable, so we unfortunately missed out on a balcony, but the replacement had a fantastic view and still room for a barbeque and place to set the provided plastic chairs outside.
We had a brilliant and memorable time. It's a bit on the pricey side, so we won't be able to make it back much, but we'll always consider it!

Room Tip: Buzzard cottage sits on top of a hill and has a wonderful view from the lounge, with large corner wi...

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Portnellan. I came here last September with my girlfriend and 2 friends with a voucher, and had such a great time we came back with two more friends last week. This time we stayed in the Kestrel lodge, which didn't have as amazing a view as Ptarmigan, but was still excellent to stay in. Cameron is a wonderful host - I've never been anywhere where the hosts care as much about you having an enjoyable stay!

There are gas bbq's to rent, and canoes and rowing boats and mountain bikes to rent for free! We all rowed out to the ruined castle in the middle of the loch, we cycled in to Crianlarich, we swam in the amazing pools at the foot of Ben More, it was a terrific time.

One word of warning - bring midge repellant if the weather is nice!

We will definitely be back again - one day we hope to stay in Ghillies Lodge, with it's sauna and hot tub. Thanks Cameron!

We went to stay at Portnellan May24th-May27th (a Thursday through to Sunday arvo). I had no idea what it would be like, though we had friends with us who had been before and gave it rave reviews.

First and foremost - the cabins are set in the most beautiful, scenic area against the dramatic backdrop of Ben Mor. Absolutely breathtaking regardless of what type of weather you encounter on your stay. We were lucky enough to get the hottest four days of the year so far - which enabled us to go swimming, kyaking, sunbathing, hillwalking and shoot a short film in the woods behind the main grounds of Portnellan. Amazing!

Secondly, I want to commend the grounds keeper and owner, Cameron, on his AMAZING hospitality and kindness! He was always ready with a smile and would offer to book taxis, pick things up at the local shop for us that we had run out of (mainly beer and snags!) and was always on hand to help with lighting the BBQ or to give advice on the best places to go adventuring (...the ''secret pool'' was my personal favorite!)
As an example, my boyfriend got a tick whilst out and about - being mostly city folk we had no idea what to do. I pulled it's body off and of course it's wee head stuck fast. From all things tick related that I can remember (not much) I know this is a bad thing. I happened to mention in passing to a local farmer who rented his Kayaks to us that we'd had a ''tick situation'' on our hands. By the time we got back to Portnellan Cameron was waiting to ask how my boyfriend was and had already asked his wife to pick up a bottle of TCP at the shops for us! Really, really kind and thoughtfull...and if memory serves me correctly - he didnt even ask us to pay for it! Thank you Cameron!

I highly recommend Portnellan for anyone - familes, friends on weekends away or couples on romantic getaways.

But dont take my word for it - see for yourself!

Room Tip: if you can afford it go for the GILLIES lodge....Indoor Jacuzzi, stunning views and big enough to ho...
