“Lovely Afternoon Tea”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

I was invited for Afternoon Tea at the Winnock and was a little apprehensive as to how good it would be. Having last been at the hotel in Sept '13 after climbing Ben Lomond, from memory it was rather tatty round the edges with torn upholstery on the furnishings. Fine for a cold drink after a long walk but not much more. I definitely wasn't expecting much of the food however I was pleasantly surprised. From the minute I made the reservation by phone, I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff. When we got there, we were told we could have Tea wherever we wished and after settling upon the Conservatory, our waitress came to find us and take our order. When the food arrived it was not the usual tiny bites you normally get but a nicely presented selection of sandwiches, vol au vents, mini pies and salad. This was followed by a great selection of what definitely looked like home-made desserts including lemon tart, cheesecake and meringue, all beautifully decorated with fresh berries. This was served with unlimited tea and coffee. What also impressed us was the staff, all of whom were very friendly. The guy behind the bar confirmed that they'd re-upholstered the public areas and was genuinely pleased that I'd noticed and for my compliments on the 'spruce up'.

If you're looking for a nice afternoon out, I'd recommend Afternoon Tea at the Winnock any time.

We received a warm welcome and this well-situated hotel. It was very busy but service was pleasant and efficient. We did not eat here as we thought it was quite expensive and we had been advised to try the fish and chips at the Drymen Inn.
Breakfast was good with fresh fruit salad and choices other than the ubiquitous bacon and egg!

We have just come back from a four nights stay in this hotel. We travelled up with parrys international coach toùrs and again we were not disappointed. The hotel is a great hotel situated in a quaint village green.
The hotel on arrival has an impact of cleanliness and character. The welcome we had was second to none. I can ònly speak of our room which was wonderful with a large television which my husband appreciated to watch the world cup, there was also a television in the bar that had a tremendous atmosphere during the matches.
There was a complimentary tray with a variety of beverages. We asked for extra milk and it was left.
Moving on to the most important part food. Again a typical liaison between the hotel and parrys but what we saw of the bar meals they were of an extremely high standard.
Breakfast was a full cold buffet style cereals fruit and fruit juice. There is also a choice of a full cooked breakfast which is freshly cooked in small batches so it is always hot. The evening meal had a choice of three starters, four main course which had foul, meat fish and a vegetarian option. Then there was a chance of three sweets. The hotel is spotlessly clean with adequate facilities for the disabled.
The staff are totally dedicated to caring for their guests, they're all local people dedicated to the profession of keeping their guests happy and have a total pride in the hotel. We had to cancel this holiday twice but third time lucky we were not disappointed. We can only speak really highly of this hotel. WONDERFUL.
It would appear that this hotel has full occupancy most of the time therefore it would be advisable to book in advance. This hotel is extremely popular with walkers in this are. All the reviews can't be wrong.

We spent a LOT of time deciding on where to hold our wedding and settled on The Winnock because of it's location, flexible wedding package and good reputation. We were definitely not disappointed!

We were married at the hotel as well as holding our celebration there and cannot thank the staff enough for their help, particularly John Gallacher, who helped us plan our perfect day and supported us every step of the way even though ours was quite a small wedding of about 40 guests.

Rooms are comfortable, clean and well-appointed and the hotel were very happy to allow children to share twin rooms with their parents in a double next door, which really put our minds at rest. The function room was set up exactly as we asked for our wedding ceremony and for the wedding breakfast and evening entertainment. The food was superb - we didn't really have any worries here as we have eaten at the hotel several times. One minor concern we had was hungry wedding guests not having enough to eat after a long afternoon of a ceremony and photography but we need not have worried as the portion sizes were very generous indeed and everyone commented on how good the meal was.

We had our main wedding photos taken at the Forestry Commission camping site at Cashel, just 15 mins drive from the hotel on the Balmaha road and the staff there were very accomodating when we asked for their permission a couple of weeks before our wedding. Absolutely stunning views of Loch Lomond and the West Highlands beyond. Not, of course, part of the hotel's package but a wonderful complement to it nevertheless.

We had such a perfect day at the Winnock and believe me we are quite particular about value for money. We would definitely recommend The Winnock Hotel as a fantastic wedding venue. Thank you so much. Lynne and Craig Watson.

We recently celebrated our wedding on the 31st of May at the Winnock hotel and the staff couldn't of done enough for us, especially John who was superb. From check-in to checkout we we're treated like royalty and the food was out of this world and everyone commented on the reasonable drink prices as well. Would definitely recommend this hotel, so thank you for making our day extra special.

This week we stayed at the lovely Winnock Hotel to which we had a pleasant stay. The food was marvellous, staff were welcoming and the hotel catered for all your needs. Highly recommended hotel for all wanting to stay in the Balloch area, couldn't have asked for better.

Check in was ok, a little slow but understandable with last minute wedding preparations being done. The room was a good size, spacious and clean. The only downside was the location of the room being at the back of the hotel there was noise coming from the kitchen area, being woken up at 5.30am by the trolleys being pushed into the kitchen wasn't great.

The breakfast was nice and plenty to choose from.

Overall, very nice location and nice hotel. Would stay again but perhaps a different room.

Stayed June 2014 as a couple.
