Best Western Buchanan Arms Hotel & Leisure Club

The setting of the hotel is great and want to stay there on holiday to fully appreciate this. The first visit was on business so I did not have the time to appreciate all the hotel had to offer. I will happily recommend any of my work mates to stay there whenever they are in the area be it for business or pleasure.

Lovely hotel with great food and facilities. No complaints at all.

We had a lovely 2 night break in January when the weather was rubbish so spent most of our time in the hotel. Had the pool, sauna etc all to ourselves which was great. Although the hotel is rated a 3 star, we think should be a 4 star. Would recommend to friends.

Room Tip: We had a lovely room to the back of the hotel. Not sure if any difference to other rooms.

My wife and I booked this hotel's New Year Package for the second year running. The experience started on our arrival with the friendly staff who were willing to help. We had an excellent room which was clean and well maintained by pleasant staff. We contacted the hotel re my wife's food for the Hogmanay party and the chef provided her with an alternative as she could not eat anything being offered on the menu.

The Hogmanay party was excellent and the company at our table was very good. The party atmosphere was maintained until the festivities ended at 2 a.m.

The brunch could do with being a little later of possible, instead of 8 - 10:30 maybe 9 - 11:30

The staff regularly asked if we wished anything and could not do enough to try and please.

Room Tip: If you have walking difficulties ask for a room with fewer stairs to climb, there is no lift.

Just returned from the Best Ever New Years Break, from the moment we arrived at the hotel nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. We were treated to fantastic food throughout our stay and the Gala Dinner on New Years Eve was so well organised, the food was excellent and the Cehleih Band kept the party going all night. At midnight everyone enjoyed a free dram to toast the new year in. On the other nights the hotel organised entertainment which was enjoyed by all. During the daytime we enjoyed the use of the leisure centre. We will certainly be returning and can recommend others to. Thank you to the manager and his staff for a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here over Christmas for the second year running. We had an enjoyable time with attractive staff a pleasant room and well cooked and attractively presented food. The hotel was clean and I understand that the new owners are further improving the facilities. My only complaint was Christmas Lunch which fell short of expectations. The first course was fine, however the sorbet was not frozen as I would expect and was too sweet. For main course the turkey was a little dry and the vegetables were cold and the roast potatoes cold and dry. This was followed by the most glutinous Christmas pudding I have ever had. The staff when I complained were sympathetic and apologetic offering us an alternative. We did not take up this offer and thay took the cost of our wine off our bill. We did not let this incident spoil our stay and would stay at the Buchanan again.

My husband and I along with my Mum and Dad stayed over the Christmas period for 4 nights. The décor in the rooms were a little tired but very accommodating. We all slept really well on the very comfy mattresses.
The meals were outstanding, well presented and very tasty; such great value for money. Even my father who is a fussy plain eater enjoyed all that was put in front of him.
We had a ceilidh night on our first night which was great fun, especially when one of the band called for us and described how to do some of the dances. On Boxing Day evening we had a fabulous singer who serenaded us all with Frank Sinatra numbers as well a modern later on.
The best part of our stay was the lovely helpful staff of the Buchanan Arms who couldn't do enough for us and were for ever smiling; even on Xmas and Boxing Day. I would like to say a particular big thank you to a member of the House Keeping Staff who had bright red hair. She was forever smiling and stopping her tasks to open doors for my parents and us and always asking how we were. So a big thank you to all of you for making our stay relaxing and memorable. I would highly recommend this venue for a short break or just stop over. Food is delicious and value for money.

Room Tip: Let them know if you have difficulty walking up and down stairs as there are some rooms that avoid t...

Did a Christmas party night here. It has a lovely homely feel to it, the lounge feels and looks like someone's sitting room with log fires either end. The bar is like stepping into an old church with roof beams and old wooden seats. Ok there is a large screen TV on one wall. The food was good and the staff very helpful. The bedrooms are spacious with extra large beds and comfortable mattresses. The breakfast was also very tasty. Overall the hotel is extremely well maintained and worth a visit.
