“Brilliant Break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2013

Although a 17th century mansion it is been really well preserved and very homely. We have never been in a hotel with such friendly staff. Nothing is a problem to them. An ideal chillout location with plenty of rooms to sit in comfort. Beautiful log fire in the library which is very warm. We were allocated a massive family room with 4 beds and spectacular views over the estate. Comfiest beds we have ever slept in. Evening meal and Breakfast were both excellent, and waiting staff were absolutely fabulous. We were going to go to the local pub but the weather was not too good so decided to stay in Hotel and glad we did, as again bar staff were fantastic. Although a small bar, the prices were very reasonable. We expected to pay a lot more. We would highly recommend a visit and we will be returning again. Free wifi at reception also.

Just back from an overnight stay, the room was massive with beautiful views it is a wee bit hard to find this place but once there it was lovely.
The evening meal was cooked to perfection and the service from both Maria and Katie was second to none they even put a birthday candle on my husband and my friends pudding and sang to them.
All the staff from the reception were very friendly and polite and could not do enough for us A Big Thankyou to all we will defo be back

Stayed here at the start of February. First impression of the house was that it looked impressive. It's a large house built in the 1700's. We got a warm welcome from the receptionist. Room was large and clean. Food was excellent. Not many things to do in the hotel and the bar was not constantly manned. An excellent place to go though for a quiet getaway. Overall we were impressed and would return.

Had a lovely time at Gartmore House with friends. A roaring fire along with mulled wine and hot pies made for a super start to our trip. All the rooms were spacious, warm and clean. Dinner was served and we enjoyed everything. Breakfast was also to our liking. Staff were all friendly. Would go back in a heart beat. A.Garland

Room Tip: I saw 3 rooms and they were all very nice so I could not advise.

This was our second stay in recent months for one night on a deal. We were the only ones staying the night and were treated like royalty. Given a huge family room for the two of us with bay windows looking over the grounds. All the staff are so friendly and cannot do enough for you to make your stay a pleasant one. As it was December all the public areas were decorated beautifully with tinsel, baubles and candles and a large xmas tree in the lounge giving it an Old world charm which we loved. Sat by the roaring log fire and had mulled wine and homemade Xmas pies on arrival.
Excellent meal in the evening which was well presented and served by Kitti who was very attentive and has a lovely warm personality.
The bar is small but the drink tastes the same as one served from a large bar - so why complain!
No televisions in room but with a lovely lounge and a roaring fire to sit in front of and read a book it made a welcome change from watching TV.

Will definately return in the spring.

Stayed on a Groupon Deal for one night which was good value for money. We had a huge family room, could have been warmer, however can appreciate it is difficult to keep this extremely large hotel heated in the winter. 3 course meal was good, and breakfast was also of a good standard. There are no TVs in the rooms, however we sat in the Library after dinner with our bottle of wine before a roaring log fire and enjoyed the ambience.
