Spent an overnight with friends this weekend at Gartmore House. What a find. The building is so impressive if in need of a lick of paint on the outside. Inside is just beautiful, our rooms were massive, spotless clean. Overall the hotel is just beautiful. Breakfast included, plentiful and fab value for money. The staff were so nice and helpful, asking if everything was ok and genuine in their presentation and concern. Will definately return.

Room Tip: We were in 306 & 308 great views; huge.

This is a hotel with great character in a beautiful setting. We stopped off overnight a few weeks ago, and then took advantage of an excellent Valentines offer on Sunday 16th Feb. We had afternoon tea on arrival and a lovely five course dinner in the evening. All four of us were very impressed by the quality of the food - and the generosity of the portions. By the time we reached the cheeseboard, we could only manage one between the four of us, and that was perfect. The rooms are large and spacious, and it suited us that there was no television except in one of the lounges. The staff are very attentive and we will be going again.

Myself and my partner stayed in Gartmore House for one night with an Itison deal we had bought, and we weren't disappointed. The hotel itself looks so lovely from the outside, really rustic and old fashioned, and the room we stayed in was huge! It was a family room with a big double bed and two single beds as well as a comfortable couch, with a separate bathroom that had a walk-in shower and a bath.

Views from the room were stunning and the bed was really comfy. We had a three-course dinner with mulled wine and sparkling wine included, which was really tasty, and breakfast in the morning was a buffet where you could help yourself to bacon, sausages, eggs and continental items such as cereal, fruit and scones, so lots of choice!

There is a lovely lounge area with a fireplace that is really cosy and warm, and there's a separate area with a huge TV (there are no TVs in the bedrooms but that wasn't an issue for us).

Staff were helpful and friendly, the only issue we had was that the water from the shower in the morning was lukewarm, even though we had turned it up as high as it could go. Apart from that, everything was excellent.

The hotel stands on its own away from all the hustle and bustle of city life so is excellent for a relaxing break to get away from it all.

Back again at Gartmore House. Although the staff have changed they are all excellent and very nice people who attend to all your needs. Did not even have to go to the bar, Jo, who was very efficient, took our order and brought our drinks to us in reception. It is nice how Michael, the Manager, interacts with guests, seldom have we seen Managers in Hotels we have visited. Our meal at night was excellent although we did not like the prawns it did not affect the rest of the meal which was Feathered Beef in a Beetroot Sauce, which was extremely tasty and so tender, followed by Strawberry & Rhubarb Cheesecake and then a Cheese Board, which we asked for one between the two of us as we could not have managed one each. Forgot we had hot Mulled Wine and a Glass of Prosecco. Another great chillout overnight stay.

We had a great 2-day break after New Year at Gartmore. It was a special offer and well worth it. We had two generous and tasty dinners served by the most attentive waiters and equally generous breakfasts. The room was large (though it wasn't mentioned that it was a family room with 2 extra beds!) with oodles of hot water for the nice big bath. The lounge was super comfy with a great log fire. Most of all, with the weather being horribly wet, the whole place was well-heated, which you noticed as soon as you went through the front door. The view from our room was truly beautiful and relaxing to gaze at. It was fun to explore the house which is pretty rambling and we kept finding unexpected rooms. All the staff were welcoming and friendly. We were happy with our visit partly because we had read Tripadvisor and knew to expect, ie that the exterior although grand is a bit run-down and that there are no TVs in the bedrooms.

Fantastic value Groupon deal for dinner B & B here. Very helpful friendly staff. Very sizeable comfortable room - slightly chilly on arrival. No TV which was heaven! Great views from 2nd floor room. Dinner was good quality good choice and good service. Excellent buffet breakfast. Residents lounge had good atmosphere with log fire and very tasteful christmas decorations. There is a bar - it's small with limited choice but very good value. Good walks in immediate vicinity of hotel.

Hotel was nice but a little dated, there was no tv in room which was quite surprising in this day and age, but in reality this actually was a nice change it made way for more conversation and chilling out.
We had a family room which was massive looking onto the countryside, the carpet was worn but the room was clean and beds comfortable.
The food was lovely and plenty of it and we had mulled wine and with dinner we got a complimentry glass of Prossecco which was a nice touch.
Staff were very friendly and we were made most welcome.
Enjoyed this relaxing and tranquil overnight stay.
