“If you fly in or out of Glasgow, find this place.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2010

I spent my last night in Helensburgh so I could be close to the airport in the morning and stumbled upon this place the night before.

What a surprise!

Service was excellent; food even better. Best au Poive I've ver had. If you find yourself anywhere near this place, it's worth the trip to find this put of the way spot that's serving great food.

And if you don't feel the same way I do about the food, the eclectic music selection will make the evening a bit more tolerable.

“Quality food in a quirky little retauarant.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2010

Tucked away, the Upper Crust is definitely a restaurant worth finding. Despite a slightly unorthodox entrance via a courtyard and long corridor, you're warmly greeted on arrival. Dining at the family run Upper Crust gives you a sense of dining in someone's front room, with quality homemade food served in a homely relaxed atmosphere. Daily specials are on offer, together with a selection of regular 'favourites'. I'd recommend the haddock crepe...but be quick as the produce is freshly cooked and popular dishes can be sold out quickly. On my last visit, my husband and I took advantage of the 3 course set menu on offer for around £16 per person which is excellent value for money. Fresh warm bread was served, and replenished at no extra charge. The quirky setting and decor have an old fashioned charm. If you are seeking mass produced food served in a chrome and glass environment, then perhaps the Upper Crust is not for you. If you're looking for a taste of home in cosy (and somewhat eclectic) surroundings then I'd highly recommend a visit. I'm looking forward to dining there again soon.

“Good restaurant in a charming atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2010

I went to his restaurant because it was suggested from the owner of the b&b where I stayed in Helensburg. I admit that if I wasn't told that it was a good restaurant I probably wouldn't come in, because the entrance (through a yard) is not very charming...but I would have made a huge mistake! The restaurant has a unique old fashioned atmosphere, really charming! Food was traditional with a innovative touch and cooked with care. It's s definitel above the average of scottish restaurants! I thinks it would be the perfect place for a first date.

“Not To Be Missed - A Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2009

Don't be put off by the entrance through the courtyard. A small family run and friendly restaurant using fresh local produce. Do ask ask to meet Mary the proprietor and chef. Excellent food and amazing value. Not the longest of menus but based on what is the best produce available on the day.
