What a fabulous experience. Sensitively conserved and stunningly beautiful. Each room is full of intricate detail, tiny insets to gorgoeus swoops and whorls. You are free to wander, the only request to use neither one's mobile phone nor to take photographs. Rennie Mackintosh designed the house for Blackie - so it was great fun to spot Blakcie's Books for Boys under the stairs in the son's not-so-secret hideaway.
Stop for scones and tea - the cheese and oatcakes are yummy too and there is a shop of Mackintosh associated bits and bobs down the stairs plus a shop showcasing the work of local and not so local artists - all for sale.
The grounds are beautifully maintained and worth a wander, in between rain showers. A lovely visit. Oh! and the lampposts in the lane leading to the hosue are all rigged out in Mackintosh style. Great fun
