“Great fish and chips.”
Reviewed 25 April 2014 via mobile

Visited Killin this week and we just wanted a nice fish and chip supper last night. The old Smiddy did not disappoint. The fish was beautifully cooked in a light batter and the chips were just perfect. The service from the ladies behind the counter was friendly and helpful without being over familiar. If you're in the area well worth a visit.

Thank Knezz

“Fab wee restaurant!!”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

Had a lovely day driving from Carnoustie to Glen Lyon with the 3 dogs and doing lots of great walking, and on the way home spotted this wee restaurant from the road so decided to give it a try...so glad we did!! We were made very welcome by all of the staff who were so understanding when we wanted a seat near a window so that we could keep an eye on our van with the dogs inside...they actually invited us to bring our dogs in, but 2 huge German Shepherds and a food obsessed Pug would have probably scared everyone else away...but we appreciated the thoughtfulness....and the wee dish of doggy biscuits to take out to them too!! The food was delicious! I had the seafood spaghetti....enough for 2, and crammed with tasty prawns salmon and mussels, and hubby had the best fish & chips he has had for ages, all washed down with a nice cold beer and a very tasty glass of red! And did we mention how lovely the staff were??!
We usually bypass this lovely little town after a trip 'up North', and opt to eat somewhere on the main route home, but will definitely be making a detour back to the Old Smiddy for more yummy food....and hopefully next time leave space for one of the gorgeous puddings on offer!!! Cannot recommend this place enough! Look forward to seeing you again soon! Xx

“Wee Gem of a restaurant!”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

Our family of seven adults and 1 large poodle!! ate here the day after Boxing Day. Can I just say that Lynn and Michael are excellent hosts and Michael's cooking skills are brilliant!
We were looked after right from the start, we ate in a room that was separate from the main seating area and had a table big enough for us all, comfy leather sofa and chair and the original coal fired burning stove which gave the room a lovely atmosphere. Lynn had even left a few dog biscuits and a blanket for our Standard Poodle Bella so that she was comfortable too. A lovely touch!
Our food was brilliant, the Cullen Skink was delicious, we all had different main meals and the plates were cleared! Only 3 could manage dessert and they were very much appreciated!
We had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant and a big thank you to Lynn and Michael for making our meal and comfort amazing! Next time we are in Killin we will certainly return to the Smiddy.
