“Stop-over while touring”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2014

Our first stop-over on our touring holiday in Scotland, this is a breathtaking location and is approximately five hours travel from South Yorkshire. The hotel is well situated looking down onto the loch which is just over the road. The prorietors are welcoming , and our room was well decorated and clean, with a large en-suite to a good standard. The dining room is very atmospheric and was quite busy when we came down for dinner. Food was very good with large portions, and the crested crockery is a very nice touch. Breakfast was excellent with the traditional options of potato scone and black pudding. There is a large car park to the front which overlooks the loch. In the afternoon we took the Glen Ogle trail up the Glen, which is on the old railway line. Gaining access to the formation is a major climb, since the railway was well up the side of the Glen, but once up there, the walk is easy with panoramic views to the east and south, where snow was still on the mountain tops. The route is also used as a cycle trail and as the weather picked up, a few more cycles appeared. There are two lovely old viaducts towards the top of the Glen, and a large number of streams cascade down from the hillsides. A fantastic walk. This Hotel would make a good base for touring the area.

We stayed for 3 nights and had a lovely stay. We received a warm welcome from Robert on arrival and he was very informative about the local area and wildlife. Amanda was very bubbly and such a lovely hostess, nothing was too much trouble for her and she worked tirelessly to make sure we had a fantastic stay. She always had a smile on her face which was entirely natural. Our compliments to the chef " Robert " your food was excellent ! Our hosts could not have been more welcoming and ensured we had a fantastic stay. We hope to return again sometime in the future.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the loch which is stunning

We booked a last minute break over the Easter weekend when we realised the weather was going to be fabulous. Lochearnhead is a great location not too far from Glasgow (or anywhere really) and right on the doorstep of all The Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park has to offer. The rooms are basic, but very comfortable and clean and spacious. The bathroom did not have fitted shower (just a shower attachment) which was a bit disappointing, but once we had returned from our 28 mile cycle around Loch Katrine, I was very, very happy to have a bath! There was plentiful hot water, nice fluffy towels and tea/coffee and shortbread in the room. We didn't have a loch view but the view is there from the patio, bar, restaurant and residents lounge. All of which we made full use of. The food was excellent as was the breakfast, all served with a smile. Amanda and her family make the hotel a bit special - very welcoming, friendly and full of local knowledge.
There are loads of walks and activites near-by with the Sustrans cycle route on the door-step, Killin and the beautful Falls of Dochart, Calendar for chi-chi shopping and lovely delis and restaurants, Munros and hills a-plenty and the Queen Elizabeth Forest park. We walked the Glen Ogle Trail - a 10K loop that takes in a bit of the old railway that is now the cycle route and then drops down onto the old military road that runs along side the main A85. A bit boggy in places so you need appropriate footwear. We also hired bikes from Katrine Wheelz a the Trossahcs pier and did the aforementioned 28mile cycle to the Stronachlachur Pier and back. You can get the boat if cycling is not your thing.
All in all a fantatic location, hotel and experience. Would definitely recommend the Lochearnhead Hotel and would return.

We had a great little break here. Used it a base to explore the Trossachs, and also just for a bit of doing nothing. Excellent food - we had dinner here every night, and breakfast was all we could have wanted. Very warm and efficient service. A stunning view from our room out over the loch. Also enjoyed the residents' lounge. If we get the chance to come back again we will certainly take it.

I found The Lochearnhead Hotel when I was looking online for a small, rural hotel for a short break in the Highlands. It is beautifully situated directly by the loch with fantastic views from the lounge, bar, restaurant and the south-facing rooms. As it was the off-season it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful - just what I needed. It has ample car parking and you can store your (motor)bikes safely in their garage. The owners, Amanda and Robert, are friendly, welcoming, always up for a chat and love to help you out with tips and ideas for a day out. If you want to stay in like me, the lounge is a great place to read a book and relax in front of the fireplace. My room (No 3) was very comfy, bed/mattress, duvet and pillows were perfect for a good night's sleep. The bathroom was lovely and everything was nicely decorated and very clean. The bar area is excellent if you just want to have a pint (and a chat with the locals). The dinner they serve in the restaurant is really good and varied as is their full Scottish breakfast in the morning. Next time I need some time off work and escape to the Highlands, this is the place to go. Thanks to Amanda and Robert for an amazing, relaxing and really enjoyable stay!

Room Tip: The loch view rooms are fantastic.

We were staying at the neighbouring hotel (Clachan) and popped in here for dinner and we certainly weren't disappointed!!!! We had 2 courses for £18 (3 for £21) and couldn't believe how tasty and well cooked the food was!! The staff were so friendly with a very warm welcome! Steak was cooked to perfection! Would definitely eat here again! Although we did not stay here, the hotel looked very clean and cosy! A true hidden gem and we will definitely be back!

It was a horrible weekend weather wise but once we arrived at the Lochearnhead Hotel we did not care about the weather. Amanda & Robert were excellent hosts & made us feel most welcome. They had just reopened having spent the winter months doing the hotel up. Our room overlooking the loch was spacious, clean with all the usual amenities & with supplies for more than one cup of coffee. When we did get a break in the weather the views from the hotel are fantastic. Before going to eat we were talking about the various places we had eaten including 2 Star Michelin Restaurants but Robert need not have worried as he produced a very good three course meal at a very reasonable price.

Although it was wet & cold outside we were lovely & warm inside the hotel and made to feel most welcome guests if the opportunity arises we would definitely stay there again.
