This rural cottage is set off a single track road, so it's perfect if you want a quiet, relaxing break. The owners and their daughter are working the sheep/cattle farm, but were always available for questions and they left a nice assortment of drink/food to get one started. The cottage is comfortable and has all of the amenities. Be sure to bring good footwear for walks up the hills (it was a bit wet and cool the week we were there). There's a good general store in Arrochar, if you don't want to go the busier Luss. We did some good day trips to Stirling, Helensburgh, Oban and Ayr. We would highly recommend this cottage.
We were really looking forward to staying here over February half term. Sadly, the owner cancelled our booking with only 8 days notice having already paid in full. Apparently the heating is broken and can't be fixed in time. These things happen, but big inconvenience for us and a shame the owner couldn't even be bothered to apologise in any way or help find an alternative. Booked through Tripadvisor who at least have been more helpful in finding an alternative.
The place is a gem, rare and delightful. Don't miss your opportunity to book a stay off the beaten path but just where you want to be. We were able to visit many of the historic places, and nice services along Loch Lomond. But the hike up the mountain behind the house is silent and solitary, beautiful and all for us far as we could see.
There is active sheep ranching and cattle, but the house is quiet and lovely, Nicely set up, very private. Highly recommended.
When you need time to wind down and get away from it all - this is your place! We enjoyed our quiet time in the "White House" on the hill. The house is well set up with spacious rooms and provisions. The washing machine was great after many weeks on the road. We missed meeting Shona but enjoyed chats with her husband. We had many a meaningful conversation with the locals (the sheep and lambs)! This is not the place for those who want a pizza delivered but IS the place to wind down, relax and savour the beauty of nature all around. The views from every room are wonderful.
Walking holiday based at Doune Farm. Beautiful unspoilt location. Would highly recommend. We got one of the hottest days of the year - got sunburnt climbing a Munroe. Shona and all the family very welcoming. Special thanks for honouring a cancelled booking (due to ill health) last year. Hope you got the sheep down and sheared!
My family and I have had the most brilliant week here. The location is absolutely wonderful for those who want amazing scenery and peace. We are not strangers to Scotland or this area and we were so lucky with the weather, it was glorious. The host family were lovely, especially Shona's daughter, who looked after us really well, despite being very busy on this working farm.
Had a great time!
Can't compliment this place enough. It's a lovely bit of no-where in a place that's relatively close to amenities on the side of Loch Lomond and/or Loch Long.
