“stunning views reasonable food but reputation overated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

We planned an extended family reunion long lunch. This was well planned and menus available provided good choice of food and drinks. There was some confusion between bar and food servers which caused some delays and sometimes had to prompt staff or fetch drinks / menus ourselves. However good afternoon and beach with pier provided good entertainment for children.

“Poor Resturant Sevice”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

Went for a meal on our wedding anniversary on the 30th of June. The Lodge has always been a great location and we have used it many times. However this time the service was appalling. We had to wait 15 minutes before getting our first drink, we were frustrated and other diners had the same problem, there was clearly not enough staff on the bar. The waiting staff, who were mostly young people, had not been trained properly in table service, forgetting cutlery and condiments and unhygienically handling glasses with fingers round the drinking edges amongst other things. It was not their fault they were very pleasant and were trying hard and were embarrassed and very apologetic about the delays. Having said all this the food was good and we enjoyed it but he evening was spoiled by the bad service and there is really no excuse for this failure in management.

“Very poor food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

Had a lunch here in June, had to return my main course after receiving a very poor starter! Poor, dry, amateur food sent out! I was embarrassed at the standard of the food! Amazing location and lovely unit on the loch but waiting staff and obliviously kitchen staff need some real focus before this potential venue becomes another poor loch side pit stop! So much potential but being ruined by whoever is allowing or hiring such poor staff to facilitate the restaurant service.

“Nice view”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

The steak was tough, but the steak was tough every where I ate in Scotland. The view is spectacular. Most of the other dishes at our table were enjoyed.
The wait staff seemed a bit discombobulated that night, it seems they were all new and in training.

“Nice location, shame about the food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

Came here for lunch yesterday with 2 friends. Absolutely nothing going for it except the view. Nice looking menu but expensive and food actually vile. 2 starters - mussels with soda bread and lentil soup. Mussels were over-cooked and soda bread was inedible, tasting strongly of chemicals. Lentil soup was watery and tasteless. Main courses - steak and mushroom pie (£13.50), club sandwich (£9.95) and stovies (£11ish). Steak and mushroom pie was a bowl of (tasteless) stew with a tiny circle of pastry on top - it bore no resemblance to a pie at all! My friend ate the fries it came with (no veg was provided!?) and left the stew. The stovies were similarly tasteless and the club sandwich was average - fatty undercooked bacon and some chewy chicken on white soggy toast with some crisps on the side. We complained about the stew and were told the kitchen would be informed. The crème brulee was apparently excellent however but the two coffees ordered were like dish water. When the bill came the stew had not been taken off it and we had also been charged for an extra orange juice, a coke, 2 soups and an extra coffee. After pointing this out and insisting that the stew was taken off the bill the revised bill came out, minus the dishwater coffees we didn't actually drink - to make up for them getting it so wrong. So incredibly bad it was actually amusing - the person on the till actually thought she was getting a £20 tip when we went to pay - AS IF!!! Next time we'll take a picnic.
