“5 star location, comfortable, homely, and quirky”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013 via mobile

Third stay at this hotel and it didn't disappoint. We stayed in a classic type room ( no 8) overlooking the car park, the room was clean, well maintained and comfortably furnished with a spacious modern bathroom and adequate storage. Towels, linen and toiletries were all good quality and the complimentary tea, coffee, tunnock's tea cakes, still water and sparkling water provided in the room were very welcome.

We arrived on Sunday approximately 3pm and the car park was full due to this being a lovely warm summers day resulting in the restaurant and bar being very busy. The check in experience was smooth and we were soon sitting outside enjoying the complimentary cream tea and the stunning view over the lake.

We booked dinner in the restaurant overlooking the lake and were lucky to enjoy a very tasty meal whilst watching a beautiful sunset.

The service from check in, bar and restaurant was excellent as was the breakfast the following morning.

Do go to this hotel if you enjoy beautiful scenery in a tranquil setting, a lived in , slightly quirky, homely atmosphere and are looking for a relaxing break with good food.

Many thanks for your kind words and generous comments. We are indeed most fortunate to enjoy a fabulous location and have some wonderful staff. The little hamlet of Port of Menteith is little known yet so accesable. When we took the hotel over eight years ago we felt Scotland had enough "highlander" hotels draped in tartan, with dead stags and the bagpipes on the musak system. Instead yes, we went a bit quirky and brought the Eastern Shore of the USA in and created a waterfront Bostonian feel. We feel it compliments rather than overpowers this great setting. A third visit certainly tests us but we will keep moving this hotel forward as we are refurbishing the hotel lounge and creating a residents only lounge for the winter. We look forward to welcoming you back for a fourth visit.

My wife booked us in here for a night on my Birthday as we were on a mini tour and needed somewhere between Edinburgh and Oban.

Quite a remote hotel with stunning views and a lovely little restaurant.

Sevice from check out to dinner and breakfast was amongst the best I've ever experienced in a hotel anywhere in the World... the staff are a credit to the hotel. They even sang happy birthday to me with a huge firework on the cake!

Looking forward to returning someday soon :-)

Stayed here for a night after hillwaking in the Trossachs. Missed the tea and scones but did manage a sundowner Botanist G&T on a bench in front of the Lake. We were in Room 11 so had a Lake view over a low old slate roof. Lovely room and en suite. I liked the hotel decor of white painted wainscotting, grey walls and pictures or sculptures of boats and birds. Evening meal of fish starters and then mussels in cream sauce was delicious. Chose a new world Sauvignon Blanc for £33. Slept very soundly after the meal thanks to the hillwalking and a comfortable bed. My wife said a perfect room would have feather, not synthetic, pillows and duvet, but she also slept from 10pm to 8am. In the morning, a delicious cooked breakfast - especially the bacon and black pudding in the fry up. Total cost for the stay £160. We would definitely stay here again.

Dear Alex
Delighted you enjoyed your stay and sorry you missed the scones, maybe the next time and perfect after a bit of hill walking. With allergies these days we have synthetic pillows by default but may move to offering a choice when you book, will give that some thought. We do try to deliver best value and pleased you experienced that. Look forward to welcoming you back.

I booked this hotel for a weekend break and couldn't be happier. I had requested a bottle of Prosecco in the room on arrival for my boyfriend's birthday and we got a free upgrade to a room with a lake view. It was very quiet, peaceful, excellent welcome on arrival, the rooms are good, the view magnificent and although I preferred the last menu (about 2 years ago) which was a lot more fishy, the current one may be a bit more traditional (fish and chips is an option) but also good.
Breakfast was good value for money. very pleased with the weekend!

Room Tip: Pay extra for the lake view, it's worth it.

Quirky and quaint with superb food and stunning views; good price also. Excellent place to stay if you are doing a Nick Nair cookery class but equally as good if you want to explore the surrounding area which is just stunning

Just back from our third visit to The Lake Hotel. This was my wifes treat for my birthday and we opted to stay in aClassic room on the ground floor where we had stayed over Hogmanay/ New Year earlier year. The room is absolutely fine although not having a lake view. We arrived around lunchtime and although the hotel was very busy serving lunches we were able to find a seat overlooking the lake and enjoyed a couple of drinks in the sunshine with a fantastic view of the lake. Jean on reception was very efficient and pleasant as usual and( at my request!) even managed to show me a couple of the larger rooms elswhere in the hotel which was good for future reference!.As residents we we treated to afternoon tea and scones which is a nice touch. A larger choice on the menu this time and my pick of fresh mackerel for my starter and slow cooked lamb for my main was divine. I had read elsewhere that if cheese and biscuits was the choice of dessert then this had to be ordered in advance as it was not on the menu.We gave them three hours notice and were served a lovely cheese platter with chutneys and walnuts! Well impressed . We live within 30 miles of the hotel but we could be anywhere in Scotland when the sun is out, the view is great and the food is good. No doubt we will be back.

Room Tip: The more you pay the bigger the room and the better the view,no problem with that
