“Lovely Small Hotel in a Stunning Setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

What a gem the Lake Hotel is!! The hotel enjoys a idyllic and peaceful setting right on the lake's edge with a small island across the lake that is home to an ancient priory. One can reach this ruin with lovely grounds by boat from the dock next to the hotel. The sunset was on the lake was amazing! This hotel feels like a small, intimate inn with gracious and personalized service. The dining room overlooks the lake and offers delicious fare.

I own a tour company and brought a small group here. The entire staff couldn't have been more gracious and accommodating. I had several guests with dietary limitations. The chefs went out of their way to work within each guest's constraints - even knowing each guest's name and individual restrictions!

If you are looking for a wonderfully peaceful and picturesque hotel in an unspoiled setting in the Stirling/Callandar area, this is the one! I will be returning with another small group next year.

Room Tip: The Lake Heritage Rooms are very large with wonderful views and definitely worth the extra cost. If...

Stayed as a couple on a Monday night in October.

Had a disaster trying to get there which involved 3 hours sitting at a standstill on the motorway due to an accident however phoned the hotel and they were happy to move our dinner reservation back to the latest time possible.

Eventually arrived at about quarter to 9 for dinner at 9 and despite being the last people in the restaurant and then again the last people in the bar having a drink, never once felt rushed by either the waitress or the bar staff.

Food was absolutely amazing. Easily the best meal out i've had in a long time, including some restaurants in Edinburgh where i've paid 3 or 4 times as much. Best endorsement I can give is that i'll almost certainly be making the 90 minute drive just to eat here again in the future.

Room was small but very nice and an absolute steal at the £70 we paid due to their September/October half price offer. Very comfortable bed and breakfast to our room in the morning was much appreciated!

Only downside was that due to our late arrival we didn't have too long to really enjoy the place. Will definitely be back to stay again and recommending the place to others.

PS. Stole their key. Will post it back today. Oops!

Room Tip: As everyone else says, pay extra for the lake side view. Would be worth it.

We were at my niece's wedding at the Lake of Menteith hotel and it was just a fantastic location! We spent two nights, and were very impressed. The first night we enjoyed a family dinner and the second night was the wedding. The rooms were well appointed and the food and service were excellent.
As a wedding venue it was perfect, with the wee church just across the road. That's one expense less as no need for wedding cars!
The staff were very friendly, never in your face but so efficient. In fact my niece reoprted that nothing could have been better!

Room Tip: All rooms seemed good. However there are no lifts so anyone with mobility problems should mention th...

Dear Jane
Many thanks for your kind words and generous comments, they are much appreciated and shared with all our team. The hamlet of Port of Menteith is very special and little known, a magnificent setting for our hotel. We are fortunate to have a great team of staff most are local and have been with us for some years.
We look forward to welcoming you at some future time.

We recently booked a night away in this hotel on their Sunday Soother package which gives dinner, bed & breakfast at a brilliant discount (£88 pp).
After a picturesque drive through countryside, we finally arrived at the stunning waterside hotel.
We made our way inside & were greated by the very friendly manager. She advised that she had been able to upgrade our room and promptly led us to a beautiful groundfloor lake view room. We were advised that they were serving complimentary tea & scones in the bar which we were welcome to go along and help ourselves to. As the weather was pleasant we were able to go & sit outside and enjoy the surroundings.
We booked a table for dinner and enjoyed a drink before hand in the bar. The waitress offered us a look at a menu and took our order when we were ready. This allowed us to take our seat in the dining room at our leisure. However, i found the menu a bit disappointing and lacked anything that really stood out as a must have. Instead of a nice steak, the beef option was a burger. fish & chips, lamb, fish & pork. none of which i wanted. i ended up opting for Pork on a bed of noodles. When it arrived, i didn't want to eat it so picked at a few noodles. My husband opted for the Lamb which he said was beautiful but agreed the menu wasn't exactly what he expected. We were given a jug for water for the table but at no point were we offered drinks from the bar.
We decided after our meal to head back to our room as the bar area was empty and other guests seemed to be going back to their rooms.
We had a wonderful nights sleep in the room as its so quiet. We almost missed breakfast because of it although maybe would have been better if we had. The full english breakfast was so greasy if you closed your eyes it'd be impossible to guess which item you were eating. My husband had the smoked salmon & scrambled egg which he said was just ok.
Such a beatuiful hotel but shame the food let it down so badly. I'm sure the options on the dinner menu were tasty but i don't expect to go to a nice restaurant and order a beef burger.
We would return but we'd maybe not opt for a dinner package and just head to Aberfoyle for fish & Chips.

Many thanks for visiting The Lake and pleased that on balance you seemd to have enjoyed most of your stay. We never forget you have a choice and listen very carefully to our customers. We were puzzled to read of your dining experience. We are human and can get it wrong, when that happens we are not slow to put our hands up and make every effort to please. However there were no comments at the time and we do not recognise the senario. If fellow travels read our reviews here and elsewhere, dining would appear to be one of our core strengths. We will certainly take your comments in the spirit offered and hope you consider joining us another time. Our Gourmet Wine Dinners tend to offer more elaborate menus and may be a better option for you. At only £99 per person for room, dinner and all wines, brilliant value.

This is a most pleasant Scottish country hotel in a lovely setting (overlooking the only 'lake' in Scotland!). The service is excellent, the staff very friendly, and the food first class. It is a convenient place to base yourself when touring around Central Scotland. I would add that one of our party was in a wheelchair and movement around the hotel was easy and convenient (bearing in mind the fact that our rooms were on the ground floor).

Room Tip: We had ground floor room with French windows opening on to a little terrace, with the lake a matter...

This hotel was amazing, a secluded picturesque hideaway offering peace and tranquility. It was very easy to take after a long drive. Positioned overlooking Lake Menteith, and recently renovated. It offered comfortable accommodation with a spacious dining and bar area overlooking the lake as well. The restaurant did not disappoint, it also was perfect. My husband had the lamb and I had the salmon and both dishes were mouth watering, the chef was brilliant. Breakfast was beautiful with a wide selection of hot and cold meals. The hotel staff were warm and welcoming and couldn't do enough for you.
It was such a treat to stay here.

Room Tip: We only stayed one night, if you can stay longer.

Our beautiful room had a gorgeous view of the lake and early morning the fishermen in boats started out right outside our room and we were able to watch them catch fish without getting out of bed. Our dinner in the hotel was very romantic though the service was not great.

Room Tip: Choose the room on the end on the first floor..there is a door to the outside right next to your doo...
