Although it's a youth hostel there was a variety of ages and groups. Everyone was really respectful to each other, the kitchen is fairly big to allow room to cook your meals and plenty of storage space. The location was beautiful and you can do some nice walks from the hostel. The beds were comfortable and there wasn't any noise after 10:30pm.
The only negative thing I can say is that it's location is not very well advertised. It's really out of the way, although it's well worth the drive up to it. Advisable to have a car.

Excellent stay. Our room was clean and the beds comfortable. We had an en-suite triple room which would be worth asking for as not all rooms have this. Our room faced the Loch which was lovely. The self catering facilities are excellent but we had the evening meal provided which was tasty and good value. The chefs are good and were conscientious, one of them kept nipping out to find out if we had everything we needed which was nice. Breakfast was a little hectic but I think it was because there was just the one chef on when he could have done with some help but, that said, the breakfast was delicious and there was lots of it!! There is a good drying room and all of our things dried out even though they were soaking wet the previous evening. The views are amazing and the historic building in which it sits is beautiful. Lovely lounge with good views, comfortable seats, and tv with large selection of dvd choice.

(Hint to purple haired lady on Reception;- Please let dripping wet guests wipe their hands dry. It is difficult to fill in the registration form when soaking wet. The availability of a towel or hand towels would be a good idea. Your refusal to hand me a tea towel on grounds of your health and safety when there were hand towels within the kitchen area was silly as I ended up making your registration form all soggy)

Room Tip: If you do not wish to share we had a triple room which had it's own bathroom! It is downstairs...

A great hostel in a great location right on the banks of Loch Lomond . It was great to sit by the loch and have afternoon tea and then later sit in the picture window in the lounge watching water skiers and other water activities on the loch . Very friendly staff . Royal baby born whilst we were there !

The en-suite room was impressive - it was well laid out with a very pleasant view of the loch. The breakfast was adequate, althogh the fish was rather over-done. The service at breakfast was to be recommended. Cannot understand how a 21st century Hotel is living in the stone age when it comes to wi-fi. Was told that you might just get a connection by wandering around outside with a lap-top. If Kingshouse Hotel at Glencoe can provide an Internet connection, then Rowardennan should surely be able to do so. A pity there's not more competition in the area - that might generate some action in the wi-fi department.

We stayed here after the second day of walking the West Highland Way. Had been a tough day so a comfy bed, hot shower and good grub was what we craved , the youth hostel ticked all boxes. TV lounge was very cosy, everything was immaculate. Think at least breakfast should be included in the price, not an extra, food was good though, perfect feed before a day's walking

very nice staff - clean and tidy bedrooms. showerrooms and commun rooms
I will reorganise week ends with this hostel.
It is a bit expensive but worth it.
Located just at the foot of Ben Lomond and the west highland way, this Hostel will put you straight on the way for these challenges.

Eric

Room Tip: ask for a loch view on the main house

We stayed for 1 night whilst walking the West Highland way, and it was great. The location is just wonderful- we sat in the lounge in the evening looking out of the huge windows over Loch Lomond. The place was spotless (toilets showers etc) -I have stayed in "hotels" which were much much worse than this YH! Breakfast was great- and although we didn't eat there in the evening we wished we had as the food looked lovely. As previous review stated the bedrooms are basic but were fine for what we wanted-clean warm and comfy beds- this is not supposed to be five star luxury so don't expect that. Value for money is fantastic, wonderful packed lunch also. But best of all for me is the standard of service from the staff who were all friendly, welcoming lovely young people from all over the world. i actually left my jacket at the Lodge and they found it for me, phoned me up to tell me and passed it to the baggage transfer company so I got it back in a day or so-Thanks so much for that! If we are back in that part of Scotland again we will definitely stay at Rowardennan lodge.
