“worth a visit”

I have been round Manderston house a few times, mainly with visiting relatives. The ladies who show you round make it interesting (and they are unpaid volunteers too) the silver stair case is worth seeing and the grounds are beautifully kept.

“Peaceful and friendly”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

The house has lovely formal gardens and a beautiful woodland walk. Internally less to see than some stately homes but what you do see is stunning! The tearoom serves lovely food and all the staff at both the house and the tearoom are warm and friendly. Only open Sundays and Thursdays though.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

I had driven past Manderston on numerous occasions without ever having ventured through its imposing portals. On a Sunday in mid-August, we eventually decided to take a look and it was really pleasant experience. The entrance fee of 9 pounds covers the grounds and the house itself. Unlike many other Scottish houses such as Glamis Castle and Balmoral, where the number of rooms to view is limited, Manderston offers a very large selection of rooms in this still-inhabited establishment. So from that perspective I found it to be good value. The downstairs area where the domestic staff worked was particularly interesting and brought back memories of Mr Hudson and Mrs Bridges from the old LWT production of "Upstairs Downstairs".The gardens are smaller than I would have expected for such a grand house and of limited interest but the views of the house from beyond the lake are lovely. Overall, a great way to spend a few hours on a lazy Sunday.
