Owner description: The museum is situated on the harbour and is a replica of an 18th Century Frigate. The museum houses our current display of a whaling boat, "Eliza" from the Azores and similar to Capt. Ahabs' boat in Moby Dick. We are also fortunate enough to have, on loan, a number of artifacts, photos and documents from local families whose ancestors went "on the ice" in South Georgia, to hunt for whales. We are proud to display on the first floor a re-creation of life at sea with our Gun Deck. This gun deck is enhanced with opening cannon hatches which face the water and a "surround-sound" system with sounds of a rough storm outside. We have a dressing up box for younger children and quizzes suitable for everyone. The Eyemouth Maritime Centre forms part of the "World of Boats" charity who have in their collection around 400 boats. There are many boats stored locally in Eyemouth and although the storage facility isn't open to the general public, we can, upon an appointment, show you these world class boats and dingies. On display at the museum are scale models of boats in storage and they are displayed from West to East, giving you some idea of their geographic origin.

We're so pleased that you had a good time with us as our first visitors in 2014 and you're childrens' pictures are amazing.
If you check out our facebook page, you'll see them in our photos and they're on permanent display in our "Alternative Visitors Book". This is the one where we laminate pictures drawn for us and they're by the childrens area.
Two great little artists.

Our visit was very interesting, looking a artifacts from a past seafaring age. It was reasonable empty of customers when we were there so we could meander at our leisure.

Very enjoyable.

Stumbled upon this during an afternoon trip to Eyemouth. Great little exhibit, with enough to keep a couple of young kids interested and occupied for an hour or so (and their parents ...).

The building itself is a great way of using space and a great deal of thought has gone into the layout. I agree with the other post about how the upstairs section has been well set out to give the impression of being on board.

Clear that the people running the exhibit have a real passion for it.

Well worth a visit!

Thank you so much for your lovely comments.
We do try to keep the museum interesting for everybody and are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit.
The building used to be the Eyemouth Fish Market and it was the vision of the chairman, trustees, staff and volunteers which made it what it is today.
We'd love to see you again soon.

You could spent a good hour going round this small museum, however I think the kids would become very bored, very quickly. It was very disappointing that there was very little to do with Eyemouth and the local area, it was all based around events in Cornwall.

Although based in Eyemouth we are a maritime museum and Eyemouth already had a Town museum dedicated to the area. Our displays are not regional and the current display is all about smuggling.
We have a lot of activities to amuse children whilst adults are looking around. We have three different quizzes and Treasure Hunts, a dressing up box, a spice box quiz and an activity area supplied with drawing materials and Pirate story books.
We aim to provide an interesting visit to everybody.

We came across this by accident but what a delight. Full of interesting tales of the sea and smugglers. Plenty of dressed dummies with something to say. Upstairs was creaky and made me feel we were on a boat in the high sea. the gentleman on the desk had lots of interesting things to say too. the cost is small compared to the experience
