We've never felt so much at home in a hotel. A warm welcome, terrific food and a genuinely nice management and staff who clearly enjoy their job. It's been many years since we stayed here and we won't wait as long until we return.

Stayed here for a relations wedding and was not disappointed. The location is stunning, the staff are very friendly and attentative, nothing is too much trouble. The food is also first class and prices for food and drink is just as competitive as the local public houses and eateries. The rooms are comfortable and more that adaquate, spotlessly clean and fresh. The establishment allows guest to arrive with their dogs ( at a small charge). Access to The River Tweed is only a stone throw from the front door with fishing lessons available.
All in all first class, stay here with confidence.

Room Tip: In my opinion these not one room better than any other!

Stayed here last night for an evening wedding reception(which was great !). Booked rooms using 5pm club deal at £79 , for a garden view upgraded room and afternoon tea on arrival.Got given 2 rooms on different floors, not great start, our room was on the ground floor along a dirty ,worn corridor. The room was filthy, dust on the furniture ,stained carpets, ripped curtains, mismatched decor dirty ironing board, teapot was stained and the view consisted of a grass embankment and the car park!!!! Bar prices were £18 for 3 drinks which would have been fine in a genuine 4 star hotel but this was more like a 1 star !!!! Breakfast was an experience , no glasses , no juice , dirty tables , 20 minute wait for service once seated!! Burnt toast and and a muffin you couldn't cut it was so tough !!! Still this was still better than the afternoon tea !!! Having booked a table for 4.30 we were greeted by an old woman who made us feel like we were an inconvenience , table wasn't ready , when we did get seated we got the ridiculous menus given to us to choose a sandwich filling !!! We eventually got our food at 5.05!!! Not worth the wait !!! Cheap bread , hard scones , watery jam,dry cupcakes ,the smallest eclairs in the world and stodgy cake slices !!! All in all this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in , I feel sorry for the guests who paid £140!!!! Wifi didn't work either !!! Don't stay here it really is a hellhole

Dryburgh, General Manager at Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 31 March 2014

Dear Readers,

We are obviously deeply disappointed to read these comments. We try our very best at all times to make each visitor experience special. Our housekeeping standards are generally very high and are often praised, not just on tripadvisor but on other review sites such as laterooms and booking.com.

We are extremely sorry to have fallen short of this reviewers expectations and we will keep working hard to deliver a quality product. We have received some wonderful feedback from the specific weekend in question and it is a great pity that the reviewer did not feel able to let us know of any difficulties at the time. It goes without saying that we would have tried our utmost to overcome any problems. It is, however, disappointing to note the deragotory comments made regarding our hard working staff.

Best wishes,
Mark Wallace

Stayed for a long weekend. The hotel is in a superb and very quiet location right on the banks of the river Tweed. Some parts of the hotel are very tired and long overdue for a refresh but after a short while you stop noticing. The public lounges were however well maintained and incredibly cosy.

There are two dining options, the bistro (bar) and the formal dining room. Both had a very relaxing ambience. The menu is exacly the same in both. The food was reasonably priced and unpretentious (good pub grub standard).

For dog friendleness this hotel has to score 11 out of 10. Extensive clean grounds for exercise and dogs welcome in all the public rooms except of course the main dining room. The Borders Abbey Way path passes the end of the hotel drive and is great for walking the dog along the banks of the Tweed. The girl on reception always had a little treat for our dog whenever we passd through.

Overall a very pleasant and relaxed stay. I would definitely recommend the hotel and area as somewhere different for a short break, without the need to travel all the way up to the Scottish Highlands. The nearby town of Melrose is a real gem.

My wife and I returned to Dryburgh for our 1st wedding anniversary on March 9th 2014.
All the staff remembered our wedding from the year before and were brilliant from our arrival to our departure.
We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite, were served champagne for breakfast and had a superb evening meal and overall stay... Will definitely be back for our 2nd anniversary...
The personal touches make all the difference and we had another brilliant stay.
