Owner description: Discover the breathtaking scenery and wildlife that's typical of this region. Stroll along the nature trails and use the viewing hides to explore at your own pace. Spring is particularly magical, when the wet meadows fill with lapwings and skylarks, not to mention butterflies and wild flowers. You might also see a roe deer. And in the autumn, thousands of barnacle and pink-footed geese start to arrive for the winter, creating a not-to-be-missed spectacle. Each season brings a different experience at our nature reserves. In spring, the air is filled with birdsong as they compete to establish territories and attract a mate. In summer, look out for young birds making their first venture into the outside world. Autumn brings large movements of migrating birds - some heading south to a warmer climate, others seeking refuge in the UK from the cold Arctic winter. In winter, look out for large flocks of birds gathering to feed, or flying at dusk to form large roosts to keep warm.

Recently visited with a few friends whilst staying in the area, was immediately captured by the number and variety of birds and the closeness of them. Two great hides to sit and watch from and the best bit of all was the coastal trail walk with its amazing views of the Solway Firth and beyond finishing back at the visitor centre where we sat chatting to the very friendly staff whilst enjoying a cuppa and watching the birds outside on the feeders with even more stunning views in the back drop.

There also seemed to be plenty of activities on hand for kids to do and entry is free which is always a bonus.

Enjoyed it so much I became an RSPB member to help support their work there!!!

We visited Mersehead Nature Reserve on 25th December and I thoroughly enjoyed our midday stroll.
I photographed some of the birds and we followed a signed walk that included walking on the beach along a stretch of the coastline.
Spending some quality time here with my family made Christmas Day even more special.
Highly recommended!

Enjoyed a lovely walk - partly on the beach. Unfortunately, other than a few gulls and a friendly pheasant did not see any birds. It was very warm and we probably should have been more patient. I would still recommend this for the walk alone.
