Fabulous location, excellent accommodation, fantastic food and friendly, experienced staff.
The grounds are well kept and the small beach area is a bonus. The hotel is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We stayed in "The Glen" (standard room) - it was spacious and very comfortable. We'd give it 9.09 out of 10 - the .01 being deducted for the lack of background music which, of course, is not necessary but would have been nice!

Room Tip: Didn't see them all - we were in a standard room and it was fab!

Celebrating our wedding anniversary, my wife and I were able at the last minute to escape from the children and spend Saturday night away. We chose the Knockinaam Lodge for it's Michelin star and attractive location. We were not disappointed - a pleasant welcome with an offer of help with our luggage from the car and an attractive, interesting room (Hannay). The setting is superb - on it's own, virtually private, beach. We enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea with home-made cakes then went for a stroll.
Dinner was certainly of a Michelin standard and was well-served. The wine list is extensive with a good range of options at (relatively!) sensible prices. The roe deer main course was especially noteworthy. It's a set menu but they were assiduous - both on the phone and before dining - to check for any allergies or other food problems.
Breakfast was very good - a selection of high-quality, local produce.
One slight problem to consider when selecting a room - I was disturbed in bed by what sounded like an extraction system.

The best part of knockinaam is it's breathtaking views and location. Our meal in the restaurant was excellent an the staff were knowledgable.. It needs to improve a bit to compete with the likes of the number one Restraunt but the location itself makes it stand out in a different way. We also had afternoon tea a few days later and it was great. With lots of choice and good value for money. Must try :)

Knockinaam Lodge looks like it's trying to keep itself to itself. Set on the Rhins of Galloway coastline, it nestles in a little bay and seems like the perfect place for a secret assignation. Which is precisely what it was used for during WW11. Apparently Winston Churchill held a secret meeting with Eisenhower as they planned the D Day landings. The hotel is traditional and perhaps more like a country house belonging to an ageing, but elegant aunt but it's got a trick up it's sleeve- Michelin starred food. The menu we tried was stunning, from beginning to end. Service was efficient and friendly and our short stay was all too brief. It's the perfect base for ambling around this beautiful and sometimes overlooked part of Scotland. Foodies and history buffs will really like it.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms best.. especially the Churchill

Just the four of us in the dining room for lunch on a Friday but that didn't spoil the ambience.

Lovely view of the stormy sea through the dining room window down the lawn. Drinks first in the lounge - we don't drink it but over 100 single malts on the drinks menu which I think even by Scottish standards is pretty good. We had the four course lunch - beautifully cooked fresh salmon with thyme and pink grapefruit, cauliflower soup with white truffle oil foam, duck breast with red cabbage, black pudding, beans, baby carrots followed by me) hot black currant soufflé (currants from the garden) with a blackcurrant sorbet and hubby) local and French cheeses. Every item cooked perfectly and beautiful presentation.

Coffee and petit fours in the lounge afterwards included in the £40 set price. Not cheap but you wouldn't expect it to be in a Michelin starred establishment would you?

Only downside is the rather bumpy end of the lane which you have to be careful with - lots of potholes which will only get worse as the winter draws on - something to sort out management I think.

Would highly recommend for a sophisticated but very friendly lunch in extremely romantic surroundings.....oh and they do rooms too!

Group of six friends met up for a birthday celebration. Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived - fizz and the beach to ourselves - beach cricket on a warm sunny afternoon !
The food was every bit as good as you might have expected, and the owner very kindly chose our wines to match the food.
Slept fitfully and was loath to depart after a wonderful breakfast. A place to revisit and stay longer next time.
A hidden gem.
