“A Hotel for all occasions!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2011

I have been lucky enough to stay at this hotel for 12 years running......Yes that was 12 years! but this July was the first time that I had stayed with the greatess critic of all "My Wife!" For the last twelve years running every April I had visited this fantastic hotel as part of a golfing society. Every year the hotel and staff managed to surpass the previous year with their level of service & attention to detail. Food for 16-plus golfers was delivered on time to an extremely high standard & although the rooms were compact in size they serve their purpose. BUT the time came when my good lady put her size 6 down and requested a visit to the hotel which I had raved about for such a long time......And she was not disapointed. We were treated like royalty. Our seaview room gave a fantastic view point to enjoy the early morning sun rises. My wife being vegetarian was amazed when she was asked what she would like the chef to prepare for her evening meal! The food for both of us was truly devine & the wine/beer even better. So the moral of the story...if you only have one chance to stay in Portpatrick give the waterfront hotel a chance because you wont be let down. Thanks once again to Geraldine, David, Anne & all the staff. See you next year!

We stayed at the Waterfront for a night on DBB basis. Every member of staff we had dealings with, from management right through, took the time to speak and were extremely friendly and helpful. The evening meal was fabulous and the breakfast set us up for the day out on the bike.
We had a room with a sea-view which was beautiful, as was the weather. The room was very small and the en-suite is a converted cupboard, but the space has been very well adapted, though very small too.
Would recommend the hotel to anyone on a visit to this most beautiful of places.

We have just returned from 5 wonderful days at the Waterfront Hotel in Portpatrick. We stayed in the Annex, which is a quaint and beautiful cottage alongside the hotel. It is furnished to a very high standard and we had everything we could possibly need. Lounge, dining room, kitchen, bathroom plus extra toilet, three sumptuously finished bedrooms and a gorgeous conservatory overlooking a pretty walled garden with patio table and chairs to enjoy on sunny afternoons, decorated with flowers. A perfect place for me to start my day whilst waiting for the children to wake up! We are a family of 4 with daughters age 14 & 10 so this was the perfect facility for us and gave us and especially the girls complete independence. Would recommend the Cottage Annex to any family or larger group.
Firstly you are made to feel very welcome by the hotel’s host Mr Nolan and I really can't fault the service and kindness of all the staff. Guests are made to feel very special at this hotel. Standards of service & cleanliness are clearly set at a very high level and the hotel is immaculately kept.
Now to the food! Wow wow, wow! What a gem of a restaurant. From full Scottish Breakfast to light lunches overlooking the ocean, through to fine dining in the restaurant. The A La Carte dinner menu offers everything from the best seafood including Langoustine, Prawns, Lobster, King Scallops to Rack of Lamb and Fillet steak. Even the burgers and chicken pasta from the bar menu were favourites with my daughters. Dining at the Waterfront Hotel is a complete spoil as every mouth watering meal is cooked and served to perfection! Pure indulgence! Finished off with a lingering cappuccino or two on the hotel patio overlooking the ocean, it really is a little bit of paradise! Diet starts tomorrow!
Portpatrick is a very special place to holiday as it is so unspoiled with a wealth of natural beauty! Cliff tops walks a must. The perfect place to unwind and I can't imagine staying anywhere nicer than the Waterfront Hotel. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The first impressions at the door are good with a good reception and our bags taken to the rooms up fairly narrow stairs. It is an old property on the quaint harbour. Our room for 1 night was at the back it was extremely small, hardly room for our bags never mind us. I asked for a room upgrade but none was available. We may be walkers but we like luxury. I would advise that if you booked here you asked for a large room and did not get one at the back. Good locally sourced breakfast and good local fish in the open large restaurnat

We only stayed for one night, but we were very impressed by this fabulous hotel.
The staff were very friendly and the owner doubly so. The rooms were clean, modern and had a great view of the harbour. Even the compact bathrooms were very good - small, but a masterpiece of cramming a lot into a small space - a full bathroom (without the bath!) in a cupboard!
We had an excellent meal in the evening at the restaurant and an equaly great breakfast in the morning.
The only problem was the pub next door was a little too loud until after 1am, but we think that was a Friday night party, not a regular occurance.
The strange thing is that this hotel is listed on Trip Advisor as a B&B, when quite clearly it is an excellent hotel. So I hope the owner can change the designation so nobody is put off or misses the listing when searching for a hotel.
In all - a great place to stay for a holiday or when catching the ferry from Stranraer.
Would certainly go back.

Room Tip: Pay the extra £5 for a sea view room - great rooms and a great view of the picturesque harbour

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and were treated very well by all the staff. The service was brilliant , the staff welcoming and friendly, food excellent, rooms, linen etc all very clean. My husband has a number of food intolerances and his dietery needs were catered for in a sensitive and helpful way. My only quibble was about the television which seemed to pick up a very grainy N.I. station and not much else.!! But that was minor. On the whole our stay was perfect.

Room Tip: The rooms with sea views are great if a bit small.
