The hotel sits on top of a hill, overlooking the village. It's an impressive building with turrets. Check in was easy even though we arrived in a coach with 23 others. Reception was bright with lots of windows. We were lucky to get a room which had two windows, one looking onto the harbour and the side one looking to the sea, perfect. The twin room was big and nicely decorated. Good sized, clean bathroom with plenty of towels. Downside was there was no shower, just an attachment which was awkward. My parents had a double room, it was nice but smaller. My Mum has poor mobility so climbing into a bath was impossible. The food was excellent, great choice, served piping hot, with a smile. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I'd certainly go back if I'm in the area again. My only suggestion would be to give some of the rooms a walk-in shower.

Room Tip: Room 212 has two windows and the view is perfect.

The hotel had the most stunning view. But I think the hotel needs some renewal. I think it is rather basic. But as i said the view made it all worth while. The room was clean. Coffee and tea facilities were available. The breakfast was very good. altough I think the breakfast room was a bit disorderly.

Thanks for the review. We are getting round to refurbishing the hotel bit by bit. It is a very expensive process, especially on a building as old as this. The outside is being painted at present.

An imposing building - faded grandeur - elevated view on to beautiful harbour area of beautiful Portpatrick. Hotel seems to cater for more elderly people than young - possibly part of tour packages? Room was excellent. Good breakfast. Ample lounge areas. Small quiet bar. Arrived for dinner @ 8:15 -to be told last orders were at 8pm! Bit odd - and not informed by reception staff. Cannot comment on level of cuisine. Though satisfactory and reasonably priced bar snack. Pitch and putt course outside - hole direction/navigation unclear :-). Wonderful walks down hill to harbour. 3 and a half stars!

Portpatrick small harbour town - charming short stay location.

I am sorry if you did not receive the guest information letter on arrival which explains the meal times among other services we provide. Again, the normal check-in includes telling guest that should they wish dinner, booking a time is required. We do start and finish dinners earlier than some other places as the vast majority of our guests look for early meals. 6.15 - 8.00 has been more than adequate for the service we provide. Thanks for taking the time to write a review.

We recently stayed on a self drive break with family and on arrival were told we had been upgraded to superior rooms. Brilliant! My husband and I were in room 11 and the view across the harbour was stunning. My sister and Brother-in-law were downstairs in room 1 which was ok and also had a lovely view. As other reviewers have said the outside was a bit of a disappointment but what can you expect with the weather that it gets battered with. Inside we couldn`t fault anything and all the staff in restaurant and bar were very friendly and helpful as were the reception staff. We stayed for 4 nights and although the weather wasn`t altogether kind to us we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Must just mention the lovely hot plates at all the meals. Afraid it`s a bug bear of mine. Why give anyone a hot meal on a cold plate!! Lovely comfy bed too and rooms and bathroom looked after daily.

Room Tip: We were upgraded so can`t comment on any other rooms. Room 11 was brilliant.

Went to Portpatrick on a Caledonian Coach Trip. Hotel is in a stunning location high up on the cliffs overlooking the harbour. Service, food and cleanliness all excellent. Great walks in the area with every bend in the path giving another stunning vista. Walks not very accessible for anyone with mobility difficulties. We also went on a visit to the Mull of Galloway. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Had a three day self catering break in apartment 3 at the hotel with my husband and two granddaughters. On entering the apartment we were very disappointed. We entered directly into the living/diningroom and it was pretty bleak with not a single thing to welcome you...very dark with no window. The kitchen and bathroom had no windows either. What made it worse were the heavy doors that don't stay open....maybe these are fire doors, but we haven't had them anywhere else!! On saying that, the bedrooms were lovely and beds were so comfy and the bedlinen was immaculate ,as was the rest of the apartment..The bedrooms were bright and airy and the views from the bedroom windows, especially the main bedroom were amazing. Outside was beautiful with views right down to the harbour and out to sea.I just think the first impression of the apartment was disappointing and unappealing and if it was painted and brightened up it would make such a difference. The wifi for myself and my granddaughters was a bit iffy too.The only place we could get a signal was in the main lounge area which was full most nights so we couldn't always find a seat. I think it is a lovely hotel with a lovely position and I would come back again just for that, but would love to arrive to a nice welcoming living area.

Thanks for the review. The layout of the room makes it very difficult to have it any other way. The doors are indeed fire doors. Legislation is the reason we have them on all bedrooms and kitchens. Eventually, all hotels, selfcatering, guests houses and B&B’s will have to comply the same as we have.
