We stayed here before setting off to Belfast. I'd pre-paid on booking.com which is a shame, as my wife burst into tears as soon as we alone in our room, otherwise we would have left straight away. Probably should have done anyway. For breakfast we were given a supermarket bag which contained a loaf of bread-says it all really. This place is a serious dump. You've been warned.

Room Tip: It stated that they have wifi but that didn't work and I had to pay cash for the room-£65, so if...

We booked the family room for one night, and although I was a little worried by some of the reviews I had read, I was so wrong. The room was lovely, clean and with everything you need, but the hospitality shown by Lisa and her husband was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was what you pay for but the little touches down to toys in the travel cot for my 8 month old granddaughter, washing her bottles when we just asked for some fairly liquid and yoghurts in the fridge for her when there was no charge for a baby. The beds were very comfortable and making our own breakfast gave us the privacy to enjoy our coffee and toast in the morning in our PJ's. What a lovely stop over we had in Stranraer, thanks to the Swan Inn.

Room Tip: I would suggest you let them know your needs, they seem expert at catering for them.

The Swan Inn is a delightful family run business and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting a safe, clean accomodation. Recent stay for one night was wonderful. Clean room, breakfast provided, and the host and his wife were top notch in looking after our needs. We had a wonderful evening at the pub downstairs and were entertained by the local Boswell football team!
On our departure the host even drove us to the ferry some 10 km away and when offered a couple dollars to cover his fuel would not hear of it...this establishment provides Scottish hospitality at its best!!
Give it a try on your next stop...you won't be disappointed!

Booked to stay to as I was playing in the bar downstairs with my band Scruffy Buzzards.
Really impressed with the level of comfort and the fact that everything was provided to make your own continental breakfast (including fresh milk) at a convenient time rather than having to wait until the kitchen opens.
The hospitality was excellent and the music in the lounge bar was first class of course :)

Our stay was short but comfortable. After travelling for some time it was good to have everything at hand to make our own breakfast at a time of our choosing. A bowl of fresh fruit, croissants, a loaf of bread and toaster with milk, yoghurt, cereal, porridge and spreads provided all that was needed. Access to the rooms from a small parking area was convenient though the entrance area is a practical one rather than an aesthetic one. The accommodation is clean and nicely furnished and the ensuite reasonably sized and well appointed. This is practical rather than pretty accommodation but all that is needed is there and help is at hand from the proprietors.

We booked here upon our return from Belfast, this was totally unplanned due to the unexpected Winter weather which closed all the roads around Stranraer. I admit first impressions were not great, access to the two en-suite rooms was via a rather tired corridor and stair case. However I was surprised the room was clean and warm. I read the pub down stairs does live music, how quiet it would be in these rooms on those nights I don’t know but I slept soundly. The double bed was extremely comfortable however one of the single mattresses in the room should definitely be changed, it was not of great quality. The continental breakfast was in the room ready for us to help ourselves in the morning. Plenty of milk, instant porridge and bread (toaster in the room together with a full a sized fridge). However my husband missed his morning coffee and had to settle for tea! I can’t fail to give the Inn top marks especially considering the price we paid. I know where to stay on my next trip!

We arrived at about 1.30 p.m. and found the Inn closed, even though it says check in from 12 noon. A back door was unlocked and when we entered found a cleaner only. She offered to phone the owner who arrived about 10 minutes later.

We were shown a room which was accessed from an undecorated corridor and up a steel fire escape type ladder. The room was filthy. The carpet stained and like an old army blanket and loose and ruffled. The room was uninviting and we didn't want to sleep in their bed. The breakfast was a collection of packages and a 'do-it-yourself' job not the full breakfast advertised. The room was also very cold and appeared to be unheated. We refused to take the room. The representative said there would be no problem and we would receive a full refund in 5 days.

This has not been received.
