“Heavenly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2012

As repeat customers, we returned to the Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel in August 2012 for a four night stay. We found the standard of service, delivered by a friendly, committed team, to be excellent as usual and the food remains absolutely stunning, of exceptional quality. Comfortable homely accomodation and a unique location that is quite simply amazing. Excellent !

We stayed one night in the ailsa suite , no en suite but big bathroom just along the hall. So different from the modern hotel rooms we r used to.
Dinner was very fantastic, quality and quantity. Breakfast was also outstanding and all the staff help make a stay here that bit more special.
We live only 15 miles from corsewall but it really could of been a hundred miles away, I will b recommending it to everyone

Stunning location, friendly welcome and a working lighthouse. Great stuff. Add views of Ireland, Arran and Ailsa Craig(where curling stones come from) and this is the place to come for fun romantic rock hopping coastal walks and sunset watching.

Nip down to Portpatrick for lunch and walk northwards on the coastal path for a mile or two, I promise you won't regret it.

If I'm being picky, it's a bit overpriced and the food is, at best, high average. Oh and you'll need good weather.

But you won't forget it...

Room Tip: Sea views are better than car park views

I booked Corsewall for a 50th birthday party and had 9 people staying in the hotel. It's undoubtedly a stunning location and a unique building, and we had a super time, but a couple of things let it down: the food is distinctly average (and why ask how we would like steaks cooked if every one of them arrives medium?) and the service is variable (after spending over £2500, it would have been nice to have been asked if we'd enjoyed our stay when checking out!). I wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from staying there, as it provides a very special experience, but just a couple of tweeks would turn this from good to exceptional.

Room Tip: We booked the three suites which are in the grounds of the main lighthouse building (which may have...

This place is stunning! The setting, the warmth and hospitality of the staff and the quality of the food are all exceptional.
The setting - is the northern end of the southernmost peninsula of Scotland, looking towards Ailsa Craig and Arran. The Gulf Stream gives this beautiful location an extraordinarily mild microclimate and a lushness of vegetation - here one finds farm entrances graced with palm trees, the wild flowers grow in exhuberance and the astonishing proliferation of lichens testifies to the purity of the air. The wildlife and walking are wonderful, the views of sea and land enchanting, and the peace and sense of closeness to nature nothing less than magical.
The hospitality - the staff could not have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The food - traditional in its basic ingredients - inevitably so, as it is sourced locally - but imaginative and accomplished in its execution and embellishment.
We stayed four nights, we loved it, we will return - and we reccommend this enchanting place to anyone seeking a soulful and enriching rest from madness and crowds.

This could be one of the best hotels in Scotland but badly needs attention. The hotel is very dated and dark. It feels more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. There are two public areas although both feel quite awkward and stagnant. The food is adequately cooked to a just above average level (think very good pub grub). We were happy to stay once but probably wouldnt visit again unless there was some kind of great offer. Our room like much of the hotel was nice although we felt like we were staying over at someone's grans rather than an expensive hotel. We would love this place to be overhauled and modernised as there were just too many little issues. We did have a fantastic private balcony area and when night fell the lighthouse was absolutely breathtaking as the beams of light looked over and after the dark sea. My conclusion? Go and stay there but be prepared for a night at your grans (a gran with the coolest house on earth)
