We were touring the local area exploring the coast and villages of the Machars and decided that it was time for lunch - admittedly it was after 13:00 but never the less we needed sustenance! Why where ever we are in mainland Europe are you constantly being enticed into the restaurants and cafes from early morning until late at night yet when you're in the UK its strictly breakfast 07:30-09:00, lunch 12:00-13:00 and dinner well whenever they can be bothered!! We trailed from village to village looking for anywhere still serving food and drink to no avail - nothing, not a sandwich, pie or ploughman’s for miles - until we hit the Wigtown House Hotel Bistro!! In garden centre was this oasis in the desert of the late Scottish lunch - food and at 14:30 in the afternoon - it'll never catch on!! In fact this was not only a lucky find it was a superb find, the food portions huge and the home made and delightful deserts were a dream - no pre-made and defrosted food here - just glorious calories dressed to perfection and with a glass of wine to swill it down!! the team were really friendly and made us welcome and if we'd have known it was here would have stopped at the adjoining hotel - a much nicer location than Stranraer and with desserts to die for!! Well Done Helen Flannighan for saving us from Starvation - just please start shipping the desserts to Birmingham please!!!
