“Our first time here but not our last”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

We stayed here 10th and 11th September with my parents and was so glad we did. The rooms are spotless, modern and very comfortable and we slept very well. The restaurant was first class and I have to confess to eating one of the best desserts ever.....cherry brandy tiffin and vanilla ice cream, heaven on a plate. So to Robert and Maryann we say thank you and hope to come back to your beautiful hideaway in Arisaig, the road trip from Merseyside to Loch side was worth it.

Room Tip: Book your table as it does get busy

The Old Library Lodge is a restaurant with rooms. Our room was in the Lodge itself above the restaurant. Although the room was not large it was very comfortable, very clean and with an excellent small en suite shower room. What the room lacked in size however was more than made up for by the view; straight out across the bay. Wonderful. Robert is a helpful and friendly host and a very good chef. We stayed two nights and ate in the restaurant both nights. The food was really excellent and Robert took great care to ensure that vegetarians (my wife included) were well catered for. We had a thoroughly great two days in this very beautiful part of Scotland and would most certainly go back to the Old Library again.

Spacious garden room well appointed with a comfy bed. We had a very good evening meal in the restaurant where Robert the proprietor made us most welcome. Breakfast next day was really good. We will return!

We returned to stay at The Old Library for a third time, slightly concerned that it wouldn't be as good as we remembered - and it was all that and more
Mine host is a friendly, welcoming down to earth chap from Glasgow who makes a fabulous hotel owner and an extraordinary chef
Lovely comfortable and well appointed rooms with views over the bay that are to die for.
Then the wonderful food. First night haddock cooked superbly and served in a blue cheese sauce and the second night scallops with bacon starter followed by lamb in marmalade - true nectar from heaven! Cannot recommend this place enough - but make sure you book. They are so popular they are always full. Five star

We popped in here a number of years ago when Robert had just taken over the place. It was a freezing cold day in March and we were cold and hungry on our bikes. He wasn't open but served us delicious homemade tomato soup. We loved his hearing about his plans and marvelled at his energy and enthusiasm. Arriving again for an evening meal on a warm September evening, we were delighted to see that his energy hasn't waned and years on he is still producing excellent food. We had such a delicious meal served by charming staff. Succulent salt and pepper prawns followed by cod in a perfect Thai sauce with more of these delicious prawns. What a treat to eat perfect seafood in a perfect seaside setting. All the diners appeared to be equally contented with only clean plates returning to the kitchen. We can't wait to return.

We had dinner here last weekend. Wanted to book for 8.30pm but told they stopped serving at 8pm??? Thought this very early. Food superb, service excellent, setting wonderful. My only criticism was we were very rushed from the moment we arrived through our whole meal, so much so that we decided not to stay for coffee as felt we couldn't savour it.

Room Tip: Book for dinner

This was our second visit since Robert took over (we stayed some fifteen years ago as well). I am very pleased to report that everything was still excellent. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, spotless and well-equipped (love the touch bedside lamps). The food was excellent (and we are fussy). The black pudding at breakfast is still the best I have had. Robert and his staff hit exactly the right note between professional service and informality and friendliness. Of course the location and views are not bad either!
Thoroughly recommended.
