“Nice hotel near Loch Ness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

My husband and I recently stayed here on our vacation to Scotland and we thought it was a pretty hotel. It was not as "castle-y" as I had hoped, but it was still a nice hotel. The interior is a little dated, but was clean. The bathroom was huge...we had been used to some smaller ones while on vacation so this was nice. The grounds are probably the best part of this hotel...very well kept and right on one of the Lochs...can't remember which one. I would recommend going into town...Fort Augustus...for dinner as it is quite expensive at the hotel so we chose not to eat there...and Fort Augustus is a really cute small town/village.

An absolutely stunning environment, beautiful bedrooms, great food. I don't know what to add but definitely worth being visited and tried! We stayed there a few days to visit the Highlands. It is close to Inverness but in such a calm area.

Outside very charming & picturesque. Inside kind of sad. Breakfast was very good.clean enough, rooms just seemed dated. Walking around the grounds was the best part of staying here.just stayed one night on the way to the isle of Skye.

Room Tip: If you don't mind stairs after a long day good place to stay

From the moment we saw the Glengarry Castle Hotel we knew we were in for a treat. The architecture of the manor house, interior finishes, furniture and decor are all fit for the king and queen in you! Our room had a loch view, bed and accommodations were all comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were superior and delicious, no reason to look for a restaurant when you stay there. We anticipated spending our second day touring the area, but instead stayed at the hotel enjoying the sitting rooms, beautiful grounds, the walk to the MacDonell Castle ruins, and the river walk on the other side of the hotel. Glengarry is family run and has all the touches of great service and friendliness that comes with people who take pride in what they do. We were grateful that they share this beautiful place with strangers like us who they made feel part of their wonderful family.

Our stay at the Glengarry Castle Hotel was an impulse - and a fortunate one. The large, lochside manor house is splendid with a real sense of old world charm. It's built next to the remains of Glengarry Castle, which you can walk to through some graceful old trees, which is a wonderful touch of history. The grounds around the hotel are beautiful, with docks stretching out into the loch, and a river rumbling away behind. You feel truly isolated from the modern world.

Our room was a standard double, with a peek of a loch view through the large old casement window. It had a lovely old half-tester bed (a touch too firm for my preference, but nicely made up with an actual top sheet and light blanket beneath the duvet - appreciated as we both tend to sleep 'warm' under duvets). The room was compact but more than adequate, and the bathroom was surprisingly gorgeous, with a huge corner bath, separate shower, and all nicely finished in floor to ceiling tiles. It was also spotlessly clean.

We got a decent rate on the room which included a 4 course dinner and full breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and enjoyed a very quiet night, as well as a lovely ramble through the grounds. The menu offered a full selection for each course, and the food was of a very good standard. The service, both in reception and in the restaurant, was lovely.

It was an excellent choice.

Had friends who stayed at hotel many years ago and thought we would look at it with a view to staying there ourselves, either later this year or next.
We decided to have morning coffee which we took in the library. The surroundings, service and coffee and shortbread all excellent.
We asked to see the bedrooms and were shown round a good selection by the Manager. The rooms were all spotlessly clean, extremely well furnished and appointed. Bathrooms all very good.
Everything would indicate especially with the TA comments that with the experience of the superb level of service what it would suit our requirements to a tee.

Pricy yes, but it was worth every pound. Great rooms, great common areas, great garden, great lake, great everything! Cant find anything not to grade with a 100%. Awesome breakfast, staff professional and helpfull, the little castle ruins were beautiful, wish we stayed more than 1 night. We didnt have dinner, too much money spent already, but we wish we had since breakfast was amazing. Hope to come back again some day.
