“Amazing Scottish hospitality”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the slightly old fashioned hospitality. The staff were great - how nice not to have the slick chain hotel comments, but genuine interest! They were also very welcoming to our dog, who was fed the odd tit bit and felt totally relaxed (as far as we could tell).

Food was good, our room was lovely and the location and views are hard to beat. Not cheap, but worth it.

Room Tip: Loch views are great

My favorite of the four hotels we stayed at during our visit to Scotland. Stayed for two nights and wish it had been longer. This is a lovely country inn in a lush, peaceful setting. The staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. We loved the food--fresh, well prepared, elegantly served. Comfy common rooms with books and games and exquisite views. Even though we visited in August, the only time we encountered those infamous midges was right by the water, though they didn't bother us on our river walk. Do take the time to explore the grounds. They are beautiful. Only suggestion would be to bring your own pillow, unless you like them very, very firm!

Room Tip: Make sure you specify "ensuite" if you want a bathroom in your room.

Only stayed for one night but it was very enjoyable, very friendly helpful staff, clean comfy rooms, food excellent especially the breakfast. Had a couple of nice walks in the grounds, managed to avoid the midgies and the rain during our stay.

Absolutely stunning hotel with beautiful furnishings. Our 4 poster room was magnificent, large , airy, and opulently furnished with fantastic views of loch Oich. Nice public rooms and attentive staff. Disappointed with menu which was unimaginative with limited choices. Vegetables were very simple verging on boring! Food itself was ok but expected better from such an otherwise great hotel. Breakfast was very good.

Excellent stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms wonderful. Food divine. Top notch service. Would thoroughly recommend staying here. It's worth every penny. An excellent base for Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye.

Room Tip: Loch views are wonderful but it really doesn't matter if you can't get one as all rooms are...

Billed a castle, it is more stately home, but that is the style in Scotland. The house and grounds are immaculately maintained, the public rooms in particular are excellent and have a real feel of a period country house. The bedroom we were in although faultlessly maintained was slightly oddly decorated, the tiles in the immaculate bathroom were sort of beige. I know it is difficult (have I mentioned it was immaculate), but usually one sees either wholeheartedly a period feel, or a modern overlay, here it felt they slightly missed the period and it just seemed slightly old fashioned, but still very nice to be in.
A slightly quirky checkin, and when we declined dinner it was odd to hear the receptionist (perhaps the owner) saying to the man I presume was the chef "These two have just turned you down"
Perhaps turning the chef down was a mistake because the breakfast we had the next morning was one of the best cooked breakfasts I have ever had. The fluffy scrambled eggs were nothing less than perfect, the sausage obvious quality, the bacon dry cured, my wife's pancakes again excellent. Mind you I couldn't eat the porridge because it was so salty, but it left room for the cooked breakfast and overall I would give the breakfast 5 stars it really was that good, nice room, quality fittings nice staff great food. It makes you remember why it has become a world wide institution, most places murder breakfast and you wonder why anyone wants to queue a some horrible buffet to eat dried out processed food.
Not here, have breakfast as it was meant to be, and definitely order scrambled eggs.

We really love staying at Glengarry Castle Hotel. One of these days, we'll book in for more than one night. This hotel was recommended to us over twenty years ago by a very discerning lady who ran a B&B set in a charming Georgian house in Co. Waterford. She loved Glengarry Castle because, for her, it was quintessentially Scottish........and it took dogs.

Years later, needing an overnight stay on our way to Skye, we reserved DB&B, and we have been returning ever since.

Glengarry Castle Hotel is so comfortable, warm and friendly. Within a very short time of arriving it is easy to feel relaxed and at home. The tremendous staff must take credit for this, as their welcome and great service are major contributors to its sustained success.

The rooms are furnished in a traditional style which appeals. They are extremely comfortable, impeccably clean, and equipped with excellent facilities. All one has to do is unpack, relax in the beautifully deep bath, and leave the world outside.

The dining room is gorgeous. It is simply and tastefully furnished with, what I would call, 'clean lines'. Once again, the staff are attentive and efficient, and the food is excellent. The wine list is extensive enough, and reasonably priced. Coffee and petit fours are served in either of the two lounges (dogs not permitted - but they are allowed in the main hall where there is seating - for the humans!). So the evening comes to a close with easy conversation and a single malt.

The grounds are great, with paths leading down to the loch or to the old castle ruins. They are a highlight either during the early part of the evening, or early morning.

It is the following morning's walk which constitutes the end of our stay, and which makes us ever more determined to return.

Room Tip: Each time we have visited this hotel, we have stayed in a different room, with different views. Ever...
