“16-18 Sep 07 40th Birthday Treat - Perfection”
Reviewed 23 September 2007

We stayed here for a special birthday treat - from the moment we arrived we loved every minute - the staff are very polite - the room was right at the top with a gorgeous four poster and a loch view to die for - food is very good - and loads of views to take in around the hotel - we truly loved every minute and explored much of the area from near Oban to Ben Nevis right up to the Moray Firth in only 3 days ! Cannot fault it and hope to visit again in the future.

This is very expensive, but it has everything. We wished we could have had time to spend there, but we went to the Isle of Skye and the next day took the Jacobean Steam Train. This would be a great place to just stay and enjoy the amenities. We arrived very late. In the morning when we opened the drapes - what a spectacular view! Out our huge picture window, we had a very private view of the Loch and the mountainside, and there were sheep right outside our window on the lawn below - very idyllic. I even captured baby lambs nursing their mother, with my camcorder, out that window. There were foxgloves in bloom. The food was excellent.

  • Liked — the room itself and the view from our room
  • Disliked — might have liked being closer to things, but it was centrally located for going different places

Just arrived back from 3 nights at the Glengarry Castle Hotel, wish we could have stayed longer. This hotel offers value for money with excellent choice and quality of food, especially the scones at breakfast. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a standard room which was very clean and well presented. The location was central for touring around, you can drive to Skye in 75 minutes. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I stayed here for one night with my wife and 13 year old daughter. As others have noted, the setting is beautiful and the management and staff are very nice and helpful. My only quibble is that the meal options are limited. There is a fixed price menu. The hotel serves a very fancy dinner that is quite pricy. My tastes are simpler and I didn't feel like paying for a lot of food that I didn't particularly care for. The nearby town has only one pub to eat in which makes it difficult when traveling with a child. Other than the expense, which like everything in Britain is high, I have nothing but praise for this hotel.

Looking for somewhere to celebrate my wife's birthday and her first visit to Scotland, I came across the website for Glengarry Castle Hotel.

We thought it looked good on the website but seeing it with our own eyes confirmed we had made the right choice. Everything about this hotel is superb - the location, the facilities, the food and not least, the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and some of the people that run the supposedly top hotels would do well to come here and see the true meaning of Customer Service.

To explore the grounds was a true delight - everything from the River Walk to strolling along the banks of Loch Oich - even in the rain!

In 2008 we celebrate a special wedding anniversary. Guess where we hope to be!!!

As part of my first trip abroad I wanted to stay in a castle. I happened to come across Glengarry and thought "why not." I was pleasantly suprised, as was my friend! During the trip I had stayed at hotels in London & Glasgow and GCH outshone them all.

The grounds are spectacular. Despite the rain we still explored the grounds and experienced lush, vibrant green grass, unusual plants ( think giant rhubarb plant), the loch, and was able to get up close to the grazing sheep.

The room (twin beds) was warm & inviting with comfortable beds. The bathroom was like being at home -- shower & a soaking tub.

The staff was amazing! Not matter what questions we had -- about the area, transportation issues, local restuarants -- the staff was knowledgeable & always willing to help. While we did not have dinner at the castle, breakfast was very good with a vast selection. We even had our laundry done while visiting and it was like being at home, along with being inexpensive.

Had we known what our experience would've been like at the castle, 2 nights would have become many more! I would trade my experience in London to stay in this community & castle. I would not hesitate to recommend this castle to all I know as well as stay there again!

  • Liked — peacefulness & scenery
  • Disliked — hauling my luggage up 2 flights but I knew in advance
