Be prepared to pay $10 to $16 to park. I made our reservation for a handicap accessible room, and explained that after a long sickness, my new husband and I (Dec.10) were finally taking our honeymoon!
As soon as we pulled beneath the portico, we were barked at to "Pull Forward, Pull FORWARD!!" Now we just a car length or so behind the car in front of us, the center was clear enough to drive a bus between. Lol, welcome... then we are greeted by the warmest young man, asking if he can help with our bags.
I was given a choice between two rooms, I asked which was closer. She offered us a room on the 4th floor and one on 1st. Were we assigned room 127.. I find it hard to believe that there are rooms that are FURTHER away. Now, if it were not that I am a Cancer patient, and my husband a Stroke survivor, it would have been of little matter.
It advertises Several eateries, that was a joke. ONE night we were able to get dinner in the sports bar, the other 6 nights it was either closed, or privately booked. The entire Week we were there we never saw the coffee bar open, not once. The piano bar was nice, but be prepared to PAY. As for Deltas, their fine dining restaurant, we ate breakfast their each morning. I think it's obsurd that they charge $16 for what you would get for free at a Comfort Inn. That being said, we ordered off the menu, and everything we ordered was exceptional and CHEAPER than the buffet. Our waitress, who we were lucky enough to get almost every day, and who was the ONLY person who made us feel special the entire trip in regards to being on our honeymoon was Josephine, she is exceptional, We heard her conversing with other diners and she had the same outgoing bubbly personality with everyone.
We also had the most lovely housekeeper, Keita. She was promptly at our door the first couple of mornings at around 8:00am, which is 7:00am for us, and when we sent her away to return later and explained, she changed her schedule for us. She was extremely kind and gracious about it.
On the reverse, the concierge, a middle aged woman with short red hair was aloof, loud and at times just flat rude. On Thursday I asked for help booking the Pink Cadillac from Marlowes, she fumbled around, kept walking away, etc. until I finally googled it, called and made the reservation myself. After we returned, and were settled into our room, we heard a very loud commotion in the hall, it was her arguing with a guest! They were in the hall shouting, it went on for over half an hour, it was so loud and had such an angry tone, I thought it was the couple in the room next door for us to hear it over the movie we were watching. Last but not least, after breakfast this morning 2/18, I asked for assistance with getting our luggage from our room, she said she would send someone right away. My husband and I waited for an hour before we started attempting to get our luggage to the front on our own. My husband brought the car around and I brought the first load of luggage the half mile hike from our room. Once I passed the Concierge, she was standing just chatting with two of your two very helpful bellhops. I asked if there was a reason no bellhop had been sent to our reason, and she just looked at me.??.BOTH of your bellmen however, jumped into action asking how they could help, one grabbing the bags I had the other running to get the remainder from our room. She never said a word, she just walked off. Let me make clear that I was the only one around at the time. It was not like she was juggling three guests on any of our encounters.
The gist of what I take away from my experience, The Guest House is doing great business with conferences, so individual guests, really do not matter. I watched your managers, and concierge fall all over themselves for the members of a conference while we were there. Managers were lined up and down the halls, standing with their hands in their pockets waiting to help someone from this conference, but I could stand there and try to ask a question until I was blue and they would chat amongst themselves.
It is a Beautiful Hotel, I cancelled reservations with my favorite hotel in New Orleans for my honeymoon to stay with you.. it was a mistake. We would have been treated special at the Olivier
