Owner description: A serene wooded area in the middle of the bustling city of Memphis: great for hiking and biking.

This park is in the heart of Memphis and is adjacent to the Memphis zoo. There are large fields and a playground with fun equipment. There are also two separate fenced areas called "Overton Bark" for small and large dogs to run and play. This was a fun spot for the dogs and their humans to visit and get some exercise in a safe zone

Nice, paved, wide walkway through a primordial hardwood forest. I'd stay on the paths, and bring a buddy. They're safe in the day time, but stay on the pavement. I assume there's poison ivy, for one thing! There's several forks, if starting at the entrance closest to Poplar Ave., stay to the left at each for the shortest walk. Free parking. Great morning birding!

There is also:
Fenced in dog park area. Big grassy field just waiting for a frisbee. Rolling greens of a golf course. Art museum, art college & an amazing zoo. I lived across the street from it for years, and still love visiting it every time I'm in Memphis. Nice little natural bubble in the middle of mid-town! A great destination, just a few blocks from mid-town restaurants.

Overton Park is in midtown Memphis. It is about 340 acres and contains a zoo, art museum, art school, 9 hole golf course, Rainbow Lake, a veteran's plaza, and an old growth forest. There are walking trails through the forest with signs describing many of the trees. The park is named for Judge John Overton, who co-founded Memphis along with Andrew Jackson and General James Winchester.

Great place to spend the day. Pleasant groves of trees, expansive green space. Near the zoo and Leavitt Shell for concerts. Picnics are a must.

Just out Poplar from downtown (around 1900 block). Golf course, Zoo, Art Museum are all in the park. Also plenty of open spaces and wooded walks/runs. Just opened a dog park, also. Mostly free parking, except at the Zoo.
