Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers. “Something everyone should experience!”
Reviewed 30 March 2008

A must see stop for music lovers or anyone! We traveled to Memphis and visited Sun Studio with our 11 and 14 year olds. We could feel the history in this landmark. Our tour guide was informative and passionate about this place. Lots of great things to look at! Very small and it was crowded! They do give a AAA discount for tickets or the same discount is available on the memphis.com website.Parking is free-!Standing on the exact spot where Elvis did to record his first song is something everyone should experience!

“Great tour!”
Reviewed 22 March 2008

I had heard great things about Sun Studio, and I was not let down. I took my 3 kids, ages 6, 10 and 12, and they were utterly fascinated. The only artist they had heard of was Elvis, but were happy to learn the "little known facts" like Carl Perkins being the first to record Blue Suede Shoes. Use the $2 off coupon off the internet for extra savings. A great tour for a reasonable price. You will not be disappointed.

“Biggest let down of our trip”
Reviewed 7 March 2008

We planned on doing the tour on the last day of our trip to Memphis. We had the day planned around the Sun Studio shuttle. Imagine our surprise when the driver informed us that we couldn't get on the shuttle without a car seat for our son. We've done a lot of travelling with kids and have never once needed a car seat on public transport or any kind of tour bus. So we decided to catch a cab to Sun Studios anyway (a $25 trip from Heartbreak hotel). The guy at the desk said he had more bad news for us (in addition to not being able to use the shuttle), the tour is not suitable for kids under 4. I suggested that this is definitely something they should make known on their website and tour information so he referred me to the manager. I asked why this isn't something they advertised and he said they shouldn't have to state the law. Again, why are you allowed to travel on every other form of public transport with out one? He said maybe they should also inform people that their shuttle would abide by the speed limits because that's law too. Needless to say after such a rude welcome we left. I strongly suggest to families not to include this place on your holiday schedule.

“Worth the $6 - very neat!”
Reviewed 22 January 2008

This neat little tour only takes about 45 minutes total. You get to stand in the exact spot where 18-year old Elvis did his first recording. The tour guide will let you take pictures with the mic and guitars. This is a perfect preface to Graceland. Parking is free and it is easy to find. Get a $2 off coupon (makes it $6 instead of $8) off the web.
