Owner description: Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song. It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers. Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

“Great Music Heritage”

I visited Sun Studio a few years ago it was cheap and very interesting. I even had a picture taken holding the microphone Elvis Presley used. Worth the visit.

“Feel the history”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

You can feel the history in this building which has changed little since Sam Phillips opened his studio here in 1950. Stand on the very spot and use the same microphone as Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. Professional and dedicated staff with an obvious passion for the place and its history. A must for rock & roll fans. If you only visit one place in downtown Memphis, make it Sun Studios.

“A must-see in Memphis”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

If you are in Memphis, this must be on your list to visit. It doesn't take much time, but it is well worth the trip. The tours leave each hour on the half hour, so you can usually make the time during a vacation there. This was my second trip to Sun and learned more this time from our excellent tour guide. There are so many things to look at in the exhibit area, I hadn't noticed the Elvis Telegrams before. Also, the tour guide told some new details this time and also demonstrated how Johnny Cash did his own percussion with his dollar-bill-laced guitar strings. Always fun to stand behind that famous microphone too!

“Excellent”

What a great place. Full of history and great memorabilia. The tour guide gave a great talk and you get to hang out in the studio for a bit. Definitely recommend this.
