As we were traveling across the country, we decided to refer to Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives for guidance to some BBQ in Memphis. When you're in Memphis, you eat BBQ, right? So we stopped in to Tom's and we are so glad we did! If you didn't know to look for it, you may not stop. The area of town we were in was very industrial and, to be honest, kind of scary to us out-of-towners. It was late in the evening and close to closing time but they all welcomed us right in. They were very patient with us and explained the menu. The menu is LARGE. We took their advice and got brisket and ribs and our little girl got the last spaghetti they had. The BBQ was delicious! It had a unique flavor that reminded me of Greek food. They even threw a little extra side meat in with our order. I could have eaten a gallon of the sauce. The homemade fresh lemonade was so good and the sides were awesome too. But the big surprise was the spaghetti...oh my goodness...the SPAGHETTI. Get the great BBQ but the spaghetti is a MUST try. We liked the funky, relaxed atmosphere too. The only negative for our entire experience is the bathroom. There is one for the entire place but it's so tiny you can't turn around in there and therefore very easy to bump your head. (Sorry, Tom's!)

I have to say, this place is outstanding. The family and I were driving through Memphis and wanted to try out the famous Memphis rub BBQ, and saw that Toms was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We stopped in right at 11 before the lunch rush, and were subsequently amazed. The staff and owner were outstanding. Talked us through their menu and made recommendations. The owner was fun to talk to, and we had the most amazing meal in quite a long time. The ribs and pork shoulder were incredible!

Well worth the stop for incredible Memphis barbecue. The rub on the rib tips is worth it alone.
Best barbecue in Memphis.

We were passing through Memphis on our was from Arkansas to Nashville while on a road trip vacation and had to stop long enough for two things: Graceland and Memphis barbecue. Well, we finished with Elvis and set out for some BBQ before hitting the road again. I talked heavily on TA and we weren't disappointed. Tom's isn't a very impressive looking place, bit that's OK because they've focused their efforts into the food. We were very happy with the home cooked food. He got a pork chop sandwich (how often do you see that at a restaurant?) and I got a brisket sandwich. We both got sides of deviled eggs (again, I've never seen offered anywhere) and everything was great. We got dome pudding for the road and left happy customers. And all of the staff were very sweet and just super nice, asking us where we were from (Maryland) and chatting with us. Very nice, casual experience!

We were in Memphis with a group for a birthday . We checked out all of the popular places to eat ....found some good ...some not so good . Someone suggested Tom's after our trip to Graceland. Looked kinda dumpy when we pulled up... looked the same going inside.... but....We were greeted by a big friendly smile and some extremely helpful employees. You order deli style....pick out your choice of meat , choose your sides & a drink. *** HINT... Tell them you are from out of town & this is your 1st visit there.... You're Gonna Get Some Extras. Best BBQ we had on our trip , the choice of sides was tough ..too much stuff , but everyone was happy with what they got. Don't let the outside scare you away !!! If I had to choose only one place to come back to....It would be Toms. GREAT People , Outstanding Food ( and plenty of it ) and Good Prices... What a combo....Gotta Love It !!!!
