Lance, the tour guide is passionate about BBQ. He is a competition judge so he knows what he is looking at and eating when it comes to BBQ.
One thing that you should be aware of- go hungry. This is equivalent to going to eat a meal over 3-4 hours so plan accordingly. Most of the places you can get wine/beer (you pay) if you want and some have mixed drinks as well.
Many of the other reviews give a good overview of what you will do on this trip- 6 stops, some on Beale, some in Midtown, some near the Civil RIghts Museum area...
We got to try three different kinds of ribs, BBQ nachos, pulled pork, BBQ eggrolls, and possibly the most surprisingly excellent thing all day was the BBQ spaghetti at BBQ Shop. It was simply lick the plate amazing.
Lance told a lot about BBQ, and Memphis, and knows his stuff. He answers all the questions and never seems like he is any hurry. If you want to get a good idea of the variety that is available in Memphis BBQ, so this early in your trip.
