“No. Just no.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014 via mobile

I was looking forward to our stay based on all of the great reviews shown here. After completing our stay I honestly cannot understand why all of the hype on here. We arrived close to 4pm to check in. There were 3 men at the door/valet stand. There were no other guests around but for some reason they did not walk to greet us or to assist with bags and get our car. No joke. I have never had this happen anywhere. Finally we start unloading our bags and someone came over to get the car valeted - but still no offer to assist with baggage so we carried everything in. The woman at the desk assisted us with check in - no smile, no warm welcome - not rude but not pleasant either.

We had reserved a king room for 2 nights. As we walked into our room the first thing I noticed were brown spots on the white pillow cases on the bed; gross. There was hair on the bed also. Walked into the bathroom and the bathtub was absolutely disgusting covered with hair ALL over the bottom of the tub. I'm not just talking a hair or two. It was literally all over - this bathtub had most definitely not been cleaned. Totally unacceptable.

We gathered our luggage and walked back downstairs to inform the front desk. They apologized and offered another room - I'll skip all of the details here but long story short we waited nearly 25 minutes just for another room. They provided an upgrade which was a nice gesture but unnecessary especially with a very long wait - we just wanted a clean room. We finally get to our room and upon first glance it was much cleaner and we let them know. However, after we started to get settled here is what we found: dirty refrigerator with spilt soda/sticky mess all inside the doors...and items left from a previous guest. Extremely dusty furniture- tables, tv stands, floors. The second bathrobe had some type of red sauce on it - clearly had not been washed. We were so tired that we just went with it at this point and didn't complain.

I understand this review may sound extreme like I am some type of angry guest - but unfortunately that's not the case. This was truly our experience.

The rooftop bar was lovely with great views - but poor service. The only saving grace was the younger gentleman at the front door who assisted us with our bags on our checkout day (July 17th around 12:30pm). He was very friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your honest feedback and for taking the time to make me aware of the problems you encountered during your stay at the Madison. I am glad that the team provided you with an upgrade - but I apologize that it took so long to get you into a room. I have already met with the Valet Captain, Housekeeping Manager and F&B Manager and I assure you that we will address the service concerns that you brought to my attention. The Madison enjoys a sterling reputation and I am saddened by your experience. My most sincere apologies.

Our family holidays in Memphis were so enjoyable also thanks to the friendly and pleasant stay at the Madison. It is well located, nice rooms and good service, and what a view from the roof top terrace! Highly recommended.

Rooms are great, love the turndown service. Location is super convenient. Very generally speaking, I would absolutely recommend staying here. A few caveats, which mean nothing to the overall stay, but just to be aware of:
- $29 valet parking. Really? I guess if you plant to go in and out a lot, it's worth it, but parking across the street is like $10.Seems like a money grab.
- The doormen are possibly the most useless human beings I've ever encountered. Look, I actually prefer to open my own doors, but if someplace has hired people to do this task, I might expect them to do it. These guys spend their time either a) talking to their friends who hang out on the benches in front of the hotel or b) just ignore you. All of it is done with a moderately unfriendly demeanor.
- I don't recommend the bar; I've found the service to be stilted and awkward, as if someone was telling them how to behave in a bar/fine dining restaurant.

This was a one-night stopover on the way home to Dallas from Chicago and nobody wanted to leave! The service provided, from the bellman, registration, restaurant staff, etc. was top-notch and very attentive, even to our children of 5 and 8. Very cool music-related décor and even had a nice lap pool. The hotel used to be an old bank building and the vault was the workout facility. We watched the sun set over the Mississippi on the rooftop bar/terrace, which was a relaxing view. Very close to Beale Street and the many dining options, especially Rendezvous BBQ.

The restaurant Eighty3 was where we had breakfast and Sherita made some wonderfully spicy bloody Mary's and did not steer us wrong on the fried-chicken and mac n cheese waffles with a smoky bourbon pecan sauce.

I would book this hotel again in a heartbeat.

Stayed here for a weekend holiday. The room was very charming, very spacious with a hardwood floor. The towels were very fluffy and comfortable. There is a minibar and the maid put ice in the bucket at bed turndown which was very nice. The hotel has a rooftop bar with a great view of the river. No cover charge for guests. You get a wristband by giving your room number. But the music is very loud.

I included valet parking in the room rate which made it affordable and the valet pick up and drop off service was very quick. It's a one-way street so we had to learn the route to follow to be coming from the right direction. The trolley down to Beale Street runs right by the hotel but the schedule is irregular and it's generally faster to walk. There's a Walgreens diagonally opposite the street corner, but they close early.

The restaurant is next door, attached. The "buffet" is actually an ala carte menu.

We enjoyed the album covers that line the walls in the elevators. A real trip down memory lane and a way to occupy time between floors. We will definitely stay here the next time we are in Memphis.

Got this hotel through a Luxury Link package. We had wanted to go to Memphis anyway, so looked up hotels on Tripadvisor. Glad we came here. The room was beautiful and food excellent at the restaurant and room service. Bar on the rooftop has a great view. Only problem was room service was not as efficient as it could have been. Ran out of toilet paper and no extra in bathroom. Had to ask to have our room cleaned on 2nd day of three day stay.

Room Tip: Had a king suite, which is nice because of the extra space.

This was our second stay and we will be back. Got a great deal on Hotwire. The room itself was small but very nice. I'm sure we got the smaller room due to the excellent Hotwire price which was 35% less than anywhere else. The Madison is very convenient to all of Downtown Memphis. They have a great rooftop bar that overlooks the river and was the primo spot to watch the 4th of July fireworks.

What sets the Madison apart is it's customer service. Employees are vey well trained, polite and eager to please. Anytime you need anything (like ice) it's brought to your room immediately.

Two things prevented it from getting a 5 star. First... while the entire hotel offers great customer service a notable exception is the doormen. I've stayed her twice and noticed this both times. I won't bore you with the details but it was consistent and noticeable. Second... hopefully next year they will have more help at the roof top bar for a big night like the 4th. It was impossible to get a drink and many joined me in going down 20 floors and getting drinks from the lobby bar and going back.

Having said that all in all it's a great hotel that I highly recommend.

Tip - park at one of several nearby garages for $6-8 per night instead of using the hotels $29 per night parking.
