Café Society, one of my two favorite restaurants in Memphis, is getting a face lift. Non-smokers will love the fact that you can now enter the restaurant and be greeted at a hostess area without having to walk through the smoking bar area. There is fresh paint and wainscoting in a small dining area and the larger dining area has new walls and doors to a room that can seat 40 for a private dinner. The food is the focus for me so whether or not there was remodeling is not important. Saturday evening I had the soup special which was a chunky, rustic tomato perfectly seasoned with tarragon. The grilled grouper was amazing. My husband always has the same thing--wedge salad and the New York strip with pomme frites--he says it is the best steak he has had anywhere. Go--you won't be disappointed.
