“Peaceful haven in the Welsh Countryside”
Reviewed 28 December 2012 for a stay in April 2012

We had a wonderful stay at Troedrhiwgelynen, and certainly hope to return! The location is very beautiful, nestling at the top of a lovely valley surrounded by fields - full of lovely newborn lambs to thrill the girls! - and in the middle of a RSPB reserve. There are delightful walks right from the cottage door, downwards along the river or up to the hilly tops where the views are superb, and dozens of others within a very short drive. Despite the feeling of remoteness (only one other farmhouse is visible across the other side of the valley) there is a pub just over a mile down the road, and another one serving excellent food in the village of Rhandirmyn a couple of miles further away, plus a shop and tea room. Even better, an online order from ASDA was delivered in good time making domestic matters exceptionally easy.

The cottage itself is both beautiful and bountiful. The result of a loving restoration using traditional materials it is as spacious and high spec inside as it is picturesque from outside, comprising the original farmhouse and the adjoining byre and barn brought into one unit .

The living area has been well thought out to give plenty of space for two families, with an open plan dining area leading through into a very large and bright kitchen in the old byre. It's a huge space, but the separate dining part retains an intimacy for meals, and you don't feel as if you are eating in the kitchen. The living room/lounge is also a great size, yet was wonderfully cozy thanks to the underfloor heating and the woodburning stove in the delightful inglenook fireplace.

Upstairs in the main part of the house are 3 good sized bedrooms, toilet and lovely bathroom, where you can lie in the bath looking out of the window at the fields! Then, downstairs beyond the kitchen at the end of the old byre is a master bedroom, with adjacent luxury bathroom and shower. Across from the house are several outbuildings, with a great indoor play area for the kids, with Table Tennis table etc - great for those wetter moments!

We've stayed in lots of cottages over the years, but never in one quite so attractive and superbly kitted out - it really was worth the drive south for the loveliness of this little part of Wales.

Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

“Peaceful hideaway in the Towy Valley”
Reviewed 12 September 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We spent two weeks here with our children (6 and 4) and another family in August 2012.

It is is a beautifully renovated original farmhouse with an adjoining cowshed that has been developed to include a very large downstairs bedroom, impressive shower room with jacuzzi and spacious utility.

The quality of the renovation is really high and the house is kitted out fantastically well: the knives are sharp, all the gadgets seem to be Bosch, the dishwasher is so quiet I didn't realise it was on. Basically a really good quality job.

Although the property fronts on to a lane it is really peaceful. Across the road are a couple of barns for bike storage and another with table football and table tennis etc. There is also a trampoline in the field behind the barns which was really popular with our children.

The area around the property is beautiful and outside all you can hear is birdsong and running water from the various streams and waterfalls around the property. There is pony trekking nearby and lots of good walking / mountain biking country.

We found quite a few very acceptable pubs in the area (one of which was within cycling range of a 4- yr old with stabilisers!). There are also a fair number of National Trust places in striking distance as is the seaside at Aberaeron.

Typically, the weather wasn't tremendously reliable during our stay but if you like peace and quiet and getting out into the countryside from a very comfortable base you will really like this place.
