“Fabulous pub, well worth finding”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

TheRoyal Oak is a gem of a place, well worth finding. This is the second time we have stayed the night here and have also visited on several other occasions for lunch and beer when we are out on the mountain bikes. The hosts are very friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Good range of well kept and constantly varied beers, great selection of whiskey (if you're not sure what you want Chris has great knowledge and will guide you) and good honest home cooked food all in a cosy pub with log fire and friendly people. This place certainly isn't The Slaughtered Lamb in 'American Werewolf in London'!
The rooms may not be 5 star but are functional, clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities, tv, comfy beds, towels and environmentally friendly toiletries etc. The only small issue (as some other guests have pointed out) is the lack of a shower in some rooms and the sometimes limited hot water supply. At the end of the day though we don't come here to sit in our rooms, and at the price including breakfast they are great value.
The surrounding area, especially up around Llyn Brianne is stunning and offers many options for cycling on and off road and walking etc.
We will be back for lunch and beer in November and no doubt a return overnight stay next year.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review. We try hard to make people feel as welcome as possible and we are delighted to know we hit the spot. We have different rooms at different rate offering from basic facilities, to more comfortable larger rooms, with the tariff being adjusted accordingly to the type of room that best suits your budget. We take great pride in our breakfast- so thank you for letting me know it's appriciated.

Thank you so much for writing such nice things about us. We try to make our menu welcoming and unfussy, but with a little imagination. We use local produce wherever possible and we are sure that this makes all the difference. It is always heartening to know that our staff make our guests feel welcome too- we always pass these comments onto them. Regards, Rachel

“Great pub food in stunning scenery”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

The food in the Royal Oak is superb and always hits the spot. In the Winter, there is a cosy wood fire in the bar (Christmas time there is divine), and in the summer, there is a fab beer garden with a large gazebo. The veggie food particularly is some of the best I've tasted and the real ale is a treat. We've had some lovely stays in the B&B, which is very clean and comfortable, with the best quality sheets and little thoughtful touches in the room. If you're looking for a beautiful retreat to recharge your batteries, you should check out the Royal Oak.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and for sharing you picture. It is quite special here in the winter and we are delighted that our guests enjoy it so much. The views are amazing when all the foliage dies back. We are have planned our winter menu which will be seasonal and home cooked, and will be complimented by our winter ales. I cannot wait myself! We look forward to welcoming you again, Regards, Rachel.

“Lovely pub, great beer festival”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Friends and I stayed in Rhandirmwyn Campsite (about 5 mins walk down the steep hill) over the bank holiday weekend and ate here all 3 nights - first two times we sat in and on the last night we ordered a take away.
We were especially excited to see there was a beer festival on but not too hopeful about it being any good - we were very pleasantly surprised. Lots of local beers, ciders and perrys. They also offer a beer take away service ( 1.5 pint bottles - £4.50ish).
Good atmosphere, food was nice (chips delicious but take away portion could have been much bigger for price) and service very friendly. I had lamb on first night which was really delicious but again for price could, no, should have been much larger amount of meat. Burger on next night superb. Outdoor seating with some goats in a pen which was nice for the kids we were with (ok, and for me :)), they also provide some toys which went down well!
Thanks for a lovely weekend.

“Great Pub Beers & Food oh & Very Friendly”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

The food is all fresh, best burger had in a long time and puddings all wonderful. Beers and ciders very well kept, but most importantly very welcoming, local village pubs anywhere in UK can be frosty when outsiders walk in, but here felt part of the community.

We appreciate that you have taken the time to leave feedback and write such a lovely review about us. We would totally agree that the best thing about this pub is our customers- they are just lovely, friendly, welcoming and open. We have seen many friendships made between locals and tourists (Facebook has been proof of that!) We are glad you enjoyed the burger- Minced Welsh Beef Steak with nothing else added. Hopefully we'll see you again soon.
