Great value, perfect chips, great quality fish, lovely light batter, friendly staff, tasty gravy (if that's your kind of thing!) & a nice clean shop & cafe. Cannot say enough positive things about this chippy. Will definitely be returning & recommending :)

I go to Gillie's Plaice every time I go to Colwyn Bay to visit family - three or four times a year. The chips are top notch - crispy on the outside, soft in the middle - and the cod is excellent - good quality fish, light batter and not at all greasy. The staff are friendly, it's clean - and there's always people (probably regulars) in the small restaurant area. Decently priced too. There are a couple of other chippies in the area but I've never had any reason to try anywhere else.

I must admit to a bias here, as I've been using this chippie for years, and have never had a complaint about it. It was recently closed for a refurbishment, so we tried a recently opened fish and chip shop in the town centre, and whilst we were satisfied with the food, and the cafe area was very well presented, we went straight back to Gillies when it re-opened, as the fish is fresher the portion size is larger, and the prices cheaper. Fish is freshly cooked for every customer, chips are never more than a few minutes out of the frier, and the cooking oil is regularly changed. The staff are friendly and cheerful, always ready for a chat and a joke, and the service is excellent, even at the busiest times you never wait more than a few, say five or six, minutes. It is what it is, a traditional, well-run chippie offering great value for money and quality food, with a clean, small but perfectly acceptable cafe. Traditional British fast food at its best.
