“Not for Veggies”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

Dined here while on holiday. Extortionately expensive if you are vegetarian. Unimaginative with just one starter and main on the menu. If you eat here you will be massively subsidising the carnivores. Give it a miss.

Hi 2308pjt
Hope you never return to us as you are the typical Veggie moaner.
I have tried over the years to do different and unusual veggie food, only to hear, 'I cant eat that' - and THAT turns out to be, mushrooms, avocados, anything red in colour, no onions/garlic , no pasta, no pastry, no cheese, no vegetables, no salad leaves etc etc
We are not a vegetarian restaurant!!! - we serve everything - red meat, poultry, game, white meat, fish, shellfish, vegetables, fruit etc etc
If you want a particular food and you are a fussy veggie let me know in advance so I can cope with your food fads, or just go elsewhere!!

“Our romantic getaway”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

We returned for our fourth visit-sadly just as dinner guests but delighted to be back nonetheless. We arrived early for drinks in the bar and to savor delicious canapes, followed by an appetiser of a tiny cup of mushroom soup with a parmesan crouton. I wrestled with starters-Grilled fig or quail?! Plumped for the fig and wasn't disappointed-it came with melted blue cheese and some seriously powerful bacon lardons. There was no struggle with the main course-my husband had the steak-the best he's ever tasted has come from Castle cottage, he pretends to look at the menu but had decided before we walked in! I had the duck-a confit leg and a beautifully pink breast. Pudding was, as usual for me, the sorbets, including apple and calvados...perfect. We waddled out into the night at a disappointingly early 9.45 due to having to get a taxi home-but always best to leave wanting more. Thanks for another great night.

“Wht did we wait so long?”
Reviewed 6 September 2013

It's four years since we were in Harlech and ate here, but having recently returned we have reproached ourselves for not going back sooner. It is quite a special place, following faithfully as it does the tried and tested format. Just sitting in the bar with that view starts you off well. Even tho' we had remembered there were "treats", we were childishly pleased with the appetiser bouchons (scrummy) and the little soups. There is plenty of choice on the three course menu and everything speaks of the best of ingredients beautifully presented. It is relatively expensive but we must not wait another four years!

“Just delightful”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

We were welcomed by the staff, and seated in a small waiting area which was relaxed and comfortable. Drinks were served, along with the order being taken. A little taster was provided and that really set the scene for things to come. When we went through to the table, there looked to be provision in the restaurant for about 30 people to dine without being cramped or having to overhear others conversations. The food was outstanding. None of this small and pretty stuff. Yes there was care taken with the presentation and it did look good on the plate, but it tasted even better than it looked! We started with the tureen and that was special, but you must try the Lamb we loved it. At roughly £40 for the food and the choice of some interesting new world wines The Castle Cottage provides excellent value for the money. We went at night and the Castle was floodlit and right on the doorstep, stunning.

Hi geoffSawbridgeworth
We are delighted with your review. Its great that you enjoyed our food, service and wines. We don't do 'London portions' at castle cottage, we hope to provide quality on the plate along with proper portions - probably best to have a light lunch if you are coming to dinner with us!

Looking forward to serving you both again soon, and you are right we are in a stunning part of the world

“Second great evening”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

We returned after our last meal with friends - always a stress in case they're not happy.
No problems - highlights included the sea food bisque, succulent lamb & fillet steak + zingy, New World wine at a reasonable price.
Well done guys - we will return!
